Talk of season two of Game of Thrones and all the books... so, spoilers!
Okay, the problem I had, having read the books and knowing who is where, is that Loras and Lancel have too similar of hairstyles and names and I was convinced, again, having read the books, that they slightly changed things so that Loras and the Tyrells defected earlier. It wasn't until the end that I was like, no-duh, Loras wouldn't have freaked out over an arrow wound (which I did find odd at the time) but he would have totally called Joffery and Cersei out Joffery going into hiding during the fight. So... I'm stupid and can't recognize faces.
The wildfire scene, while different from the book, was so massively epic and perfect and just OMG personified. Also perfect, Joffery and the alchemist's being the only two that were enjoying the show. Everyone else, Tyrion in particular, looked aghast at what they'd done (albeit, what else could they do -- stand back and be butchered?). I think that showed, those reactions, who's really dangerous.
Cersei and Sansa and Shae (oh my!) were incredible as well. All season we've seen Cersei turning more and more to the wine for comfort. I also had a moment where I felt for her, as she cradled her youngest on her lap and the kind of compassion she was willing to show him (and strikingly, no Joffery) with a quick, painless death by poison. As Tyrion has repeatedly said (and the later books bear out) Tommen and Myrcella are good, sweet children. Joffery is the monster. And Cersei... I don't know. Victim of circumstance or of her own design? I just don't know anymore.
The Lannister family just ... Cersei got all the confidence. Tyrion got all brains. Jaime got all the strength. Tyrell obviously wanted Jaime to be all of this, as his heir and it's pretty clear that's not what he wanted for himself. Cersei would have gladly done it, but the society they live in won't allow it. And Tyrion should have clearly been the heir, but because he's a "halfman" there's no way Tyrell would let that happen... ugh, it's like such a screwed up family you can see why they are screwed up adults and I *almost* feel sorry for them and I have to wonder what they heck made Tyrell this way???
The whole episode was fantastically done. I'm excited/sad for next week's finale. I'm not sure how long we'll have to wait for the next season, but I hear they are casting so yay!
