Sunday with my dogs...
I posted this over at day_on_earth and thought I'd post it in my journal as well...
I don't know what the weather is like anywhere else in the world but here it's quite dreary and has been for days. The wind is up, as always, and it's overcast with only spotty sunshine this morning. I've been ill these last few days and tried to get outside for a bit with my dogs before the rain in hopes that I'd feel better.
Savannah, one of my basset hounds, decided to hide behind some palms to get out of the wind. It kept whipping her ears in her face and making her stumble. As you can tell, she wasn't happy to be out but every puppy needs some fresh air from time to time.
That being said, one of my other dogs, Hayden, turned 7 years old yesterday. I feel like crying. I swear it feels like just yesterday that I brought him home, clinging to my shirt. Now he's got gray hair under his chin and achy joints, though he still acts like a puppy. My sister made him (and the rest of the dogs) a rice and chicken cake. Which is basically brown rice, chicken, carrots, and some other veg cooked in a cake pan in the oven (after you prepare the rice and cook the chicken and veg for a bit) until its good a set. Leave out to cool (or put in the fridge) then take the sides of the cake pan off and slice it like you normally would a cake. The dogs absolutely loved it.
We also made them some spinach doggie treats a week ago they loved, which kind of shocked me. Out of all the dogs, only Toby (the other basset hound) enjoys eating salad (seriously, he loves it; he'll eat pickles and carrots too) but they all ate them like they were bacon treats.
I'll have to post the recipe when I can.
