Harry sat rigidly in the chair, biting his lip and watching Pansy anxiously. She was reading the parchment in silence, occasionally reaching for her teacup and taking a long drink. After what felt like an excruciatingly long time to Harry, she set the paper down and looked up at him. He could see the pity and disgust mingled in her eyes and he knew this was going to be bad.
“Really, Potter. Poetry? Where did you get such a horrible idea?”
“Draco asked me to,” he said, and then hurried to explain when he saw her eyebrows disappear underneath her bangs. “He said that he expected me to do everything possible to make our first Valentine’s Day together special, and so I wanted to write him a love poem to show him how much he means to me.” He paused, a sinking feeling taking hold inside him. “Why? Don’t you like it?”
She stared down at the parchment again and shook her head almost disbelievingly. “Honestly! ‘Right here in my arms’? What were you thinking?”
“But, see, I needed it to rhyme with ‘charms’”, he leaned over the kitchen table and pointed at the carefully inked words, “because then in the next part-“
“Please stop!” Pansy said and held her hand up as if to ward off a particularly painful memory.
Harry sighed dejectedly and slumped over the table.
“This was supposed to be easier when it wasn’t a girl,” he mumbled into his arms.
He heard Pansy snicker and raised his head just enough to glare at her before dropping it back down.
“No, it’s even harder,” she said, “because it’s Draco.”
Harry groaned and pressed his forehead harder into the smooth wood, trying to ward off the growing panic in his gut.
“What am I going to do now?” he moaned. “I’m supposed to meet him at his flat in two hours.”
“Potter, stop talking to the table and look at me.”
He forced himself to sit up and saw that her expression had softened. Pansy reached out and put her hand on top of his, squeezing gently.
“It’s going to be okay. All you have to do,” she said, “is figure out what Draco would really enjoy. Stop thinking about your silly notions of what Valentine’s Day is supposed to be and just get him something that he’s always wanted that is in your power to give.”
Harry was about to tell her that he had no idea what that might be, when an image suddenly popped into his head. A huge grin spread across his face as a plan quickly took shape.

Draco was squeezing him tightly, the green silk scarf still clutched tightly in his hand.
“Harry, I love my present!” he enthused. “We are going to have the best Valentine’s ever.”
Harry smiled and wrapped his arms tighter around Draco. His gaze fell on the other green scarf still lying in the box, the words of the attached card just visible above the ribbon.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Draco. I promise to let you tie me up.
