Samantha, when they find her, she's not Samantha anymore. We are not who we are. They've done things to her, left her riddled with neat little scars, left the pupils of her eyes laser red.

Scully thinks of the Terminator. There are other explanations, of course. Anything could have happened to her.

"Samantha," Mulder breathes, stopping in his tracks, for once not believing.

"Fox," Samantha says, voice smooth and deep, not a little girl anymore. Her lips stretch into a smile but her eyes remain red and cold.

"What did they do to you?" he demands, stepping closer and eying the purple scar on her neck.

Samantha says, "They created me," and she reaches out with her superhuman arms and grabs Mulder's throat in a chokehold.

"Mulder!" Scully screams, and she grabs her gun even as Mulder's eyes plead, no, no.

She shoots. It's a good shot, right through Samantha's heart. But it doesn't stop her. Scully shoots again, and it does nothing. Samantha isn't human anymore. She's too strong.

Scully runs closer, tries to pry Samantha's cold, strong hands from Mulder's throat. Samantha's eyes meet hers and Scully says desperately, "He's been trying to find you his entire life. He loves you, Samantha. He loves you. There's nothing that he's ever wanted in his life as much as finding you."

"Good," Samantha says, and releases her hold on Mulder. He hits the ground with a lifeless thud, and Scully forgets about Samantha. She forgets about the X File, forgets about everything, and in the flood of paramedics coming in and out of the building, Samantha disappears again.

Mulder won't wake up. Mulder doesn't have a heartbeat. Mulder's dead. Samantha got what she came for.
