God's Country or What I Learned in Jackson Hole

So, the hubs and I took a trip out to Jackson Hole.  It was very possibly the most beautiful place I've ever been.  We hit it at the right time of year - before the snow and after the summer tourists.  The aspens were brilliant and it looked as if someone had painted huge swaths of gold down the faces of the mountains.  We spent time in Yellowstone ( Read more... )

I loved the Grand Tetons. And it's a publicized fact that more people are killed/injured by bison each year than by bears. And I agree, I felt so self-conscious the night we spent in Jackson Hole because I was walking around in a sweatshirt and jeans...and then I realized that all the rich people weren't dressed any better. LOL

I did get my mom an awesome shirt out there. It says, "Never hike alone in bear country. Hike with someone you can trip and outrun."

:D

That is a great shirt! And our guide for Yellowstone told us a couple of times about the bison hurting more people than bears. And they do look so gentle and sleepy. But seriously people will just go up to them like they are going to touch the things. CRA-ZY!

#3 - I found that out in Hawaii of all places. It's still one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

#4 - I love Aspens! My dad calls them trash trees because they grow all over CO and they are hard to kill but I love the way their leaves shimmer when the wind blows. I've never seen them in the Fall but I bet they are gorgeous.

#9 - yeah.

The rainbow was truly amazing. It honestly seemed to touch the earth. Never seen anything like it.

As for the Aspens - I don't have words to describe them. However, shimmering is a good one. :)

It's an amazing place. Truly.

Yellowstone was such a fabulous place to go for vacation and part of the reason I upgraded my camera. :)

I truly have camera envy. Pretty sure we'll invest in a better one. But maybe not to that extent.

So glad you enjoyed the trip. It is one of my top 5 places in the world. And you are absolutely correct about the stupid coming out in people around wildlife. I've seen the craziest things when it comes to tourists and wildlife, usually involving kids, cameras and parents. Makes me sick sometimes. And I think elk is the best wild game meat there is. Love it and miss having it in my freezer.

Aspens are God's gift to us for ending summer. The gold is iridescent with the fall light on a hillside. And the cameras you see at Yellowstone, especially around the wolves can make anybody envious. Wildlife photography is a very expensive hobby, one that we biologists can't afford even though we get the best opportunities :-)

Thanks to your list I added Yellowstone to my "Things-I-want-to-visit"-list! I know it from TV features but in reality it must be gorgeous!

#6 This must have been a very funny situation!
