So my laptop died. I put it to sleep the night before, and it would not wake up the next day. The harddrive light is on, the fan's on, but the screen is black. I reset it, and it still behaved the same way

... what is in the laptop to make it worth spending $3500?

It's a KICK-ASS gaming machine. It is the biggest reason I won't buy a Mac or install Linux. Otherwise, I'd go buy a cheapo one under $500.

What's the point of a gaming laptop? Why not get a desktop if you're playing games as its primary purpose?

Laptop makes it so much easier for LAN parties. After having a laptop for so long, I like the freedom of wandering wherever I want with it, a desktop feels too much like ball and chain.
