Wandered around London doing chores yesterday, and in St James's Park I had my first encounter with armed police. I say "encounter". I mean "I saw two policemen armed to the gills with AK47s (I'm guessing)".

Went to Fopp for the Magic Numbers single launch. There are some photos ( behind here )

hehe, "in spite of" not "because of" then ;)

it was flippin hard though, especially the "originals less famous than the covers" in the music round

Well yeah. Normally with Ben on our side, we'd have expected to do better than that. Still, with one team of nine, and another team consisting of mates of the host (I'm guessing), we didn't stand a chance...

Harvey, you're confusing me with Ben Phillippson, west London "axe hero", now lost to the quiz due to impending rock stardom. I added the sum total of a few points to our team's score and very probably that old anecdote about Rick Astley and the Lithuanian with the beard of bees. It doesn't matter now. But thanks.
Can't say I agree with you about Gainsborough Studios. I would say it's a monstrous carbuncle on the face of New North Rd, but all of New North Rd is terrible. So I'll just say it's ugly, thoughtless, flat-pack contemporary architecture.

The Magic Numbers do come across as slightly humourless dwads for flouncing out, though, don't they.

I don't know. Do they? I'm becoming quite lardy myself, and I don't suppose I'd be that offended if someone made a joke about it. (Indeed they have. And I wasn't). But hey! I guess they're in the public eye, so they might as well take a stand. I was quite impressed, I must say.

Still, the image of Richard Bacon grovelling to the band's management is quite a satisfying one. Dwad.

I love Gainsborough Studios.
I want to go to the Rosemary Branch Pop Quiz. I'm pretty sure I'm not nearly clever enough though, although I was accidentally there for their regular pub quiz not so long ago (I was page turning for the opera upstairs), and that wasn't so bad.

The Magic Numbers can't be blind, surely? They must realise that they don't look like a good 99% of acts on TOTP, and that some stupid people are always going to comment on stuff like that. There must be a better way of dealing with it than flouncing out...

Our team size is increasing weekly. There were *twelve* (count 'em!) of us there last night, necessitating a three-way team split. No wonder we only came third. Catbo, dear, you're more than welcome any time. I'll let you know when we're next convening.

Perhaps. I guess they just don't like "it" being pointed out to them. Maybe there are better ways of reacting, but as I said in my reply to Rhodri, you might as well take a stand. Shame it wasn't as public a stand as it could have been had they actually appeared on the show, but at least they're trying.
