Several times while reading volume 1 of Shigurui, I had to step back and ask "Why did the artist make the choice to draw this panel at such an angle that brings the man's fundoshi to prominence in the composition?" :D:D:D I really did not expect that...
Anyway, Shigurui is really beyond outrageous in all kinds of subtle and not-really-subtle ways. For Example, as I recall lots of *maiming* goes on, not just slice wounds, but things that Should Not happen to a human body. and the aforementioned views up dude's yukatas. and other more horrifying things.
I'm a fan, though! I have to refresh my self on what actually happens.

It's great to hear from another fan!!
All I can say is the artist really seems to like to experiment and be as outrageous as possible XD I personally think Shigurui as a whole bets on being as shocking as possible, but never forgetting to be artistic and intriguing about it :D

If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend the anime! The music and atmosphere it creates really adds to the story u_u (especially the songs! Like the one the peasant's singing in vol.1 when she stumbles on Irako >D)
