waterblade character; Refia
series; Final Fantasy III (DS)
age; She's actually not sure - she thinks she's 15 (she's actually 16, yay amnesia)
class; White Mage, because someone's gotta keep those boys out of trouble
special abilities; Refia probably has the weirdest skillset of any white mage around. Thanks to her smithing (and spending a fair amount of time as a Knight) she's actually pretty strong and can pack a good wallop with her staves - staves, because she can use two at once and usually does. She's also fully capable of using a sword to defend herself, although class restrictions will keep her from using one unless someone actually forces it at her. She's much, much more able to take care of herself out in the wilderness than the "typical" white mage. She's an apprentice smith as well, so she knows something about making and repairing armor and weapons - she's almost like a mom to her group in a lot of ways.
Refia will technically be a
Devout, also known as a Shaman, which in her game is the upper level of White Mage because the original class actually can't cast all the White magic spells her game (or any game in the series) encompasses. It all falls under the same title/job in IX, so she'll be a "white mage" just to keep it easier. And I want her to wear the
kitty hood. It means she has a limited number of offensive spells, but two of them are very powerful, and he has other means to defend herself if she needs it. She isn't quite as breakable as most mages are. She can also shrink people and turn them into toads (and restore them again) as necessary.
history;
Her wiki is so very very short; have a
game wiki as well.
personality; Happy-go-lucky and generally cheerful, Refia is usually very much a tomboy after the influence of her father (she's the only or one of the very few girls anywhere in the game that wears pants and not a skirt as a default), but has unexpected bouts of complete femininity. Far from fulfilling the stereotype of the quiet, sweet white mage, Refia is direct and can be very loud and very adamant when she chooses to be. Once she makes up her mind, that is it; it's very, very difficult to get her to change it.
She's a very caring individual and loves to see all of her friends and "family" happy, but she can also have the occasional bout of complete selfishness. One of those caused her to run away again (which turned out to be a good thing in the end, but only because of other circumstances). Usually, though, she keeps an eye on the people around her and genuinely wants them to be happy and fulfilled, and will lecture them if they're starting to do (or have already done) something stupid, much like a mother or a big sister. She also has a temper that can flare suddenly, with little warning, but usually dies just as quickly. Mostly, she's a normal sixteen-year-old girl.
It's not at all unusual to see her get very excited about any number of things, especially when something good happens to people she cares about. It's not that hard to make her shriek in glee. On the other hand, though, she's still childlike in some ways, and it occasionally shows in nearly crushing bouts of self-doubt and, occasionally, cowardice. She's brave when she has others to stand with her, but she's less capable of acting on her own in tough situations. The journey with the boys helped her develop her courage and set her on the next stage in her life (ie, the path to real adulthood, including finally committing to being an apprentice to her adoptive father) but she hasn't yet had to deal with a really tough situation without them.
Surprisingly to some people, she can also be a complete girl at random times. White magic being a traditionally female practice is the best example, but Refia can also be prone to sudden and intense crushes on random guys - which usually fade just as quickly, but pop up enough to give people the occasional headache. She's romantic in nature and dreams of meeting the perfect man, but seeing as she's pretty outspoken and is also strong enough to give most males a good run for their money in a fight - and that she's still pretty young - that really hasn't happened yet. Refia also seems to have a bit of a rapport with animals in general, most obviously with chocobos, but she detests "slimy things" like toads, frogs, and snakes and makes her feelings known.
point in canon; Post-game, like the guys
place of arrival; Hmm... Ice Cavern
starter task; No thanks!
first person sample; It's been ages weeks since I could leave Kazus for more than five minutes without something going wrong - Father needing me or something breaking or something like that. Now that I have some time, I don't know what to do with myself. I guess I've gotten used to being busy.
I could go over to the castle! I haven't seen Ingus and Princess Sara in far too long, and someone needs to do something about those two because Ingus is dense as three planks of wood and twice as bad about taking hints. Or maybe go to Ur and see Arc and Luneth; I did go to the castle last, after all, and odds are Luneth's gotten himself into trouble again. At least those stupid bullies are leaving Arc alone now, or if they aren't, they'll hear from me!
I can't decide, I want to see everyone at once, not two at one place and two at another! At this rate I should just flip a coin or something, because if I don't I won't be going anywhere. Ooooh, this is frustrating!
Maybe Father will know. At the least he may have something that needs me to go to one place or the other.
third person sample; The wind across her face felt wonderful, and Refia pushed her hood back to let it run through her hair as well, messing it up and whipping it around her face. She giggled at the feeling; the world was safe and they were on their way home, where they'd never have to deal with the Cloud of Darkness or Xande or any of his henchmen ever again. Oh, they wouldn't let themselves get rusty; if they were needed, they'd defend the world again. But for now they could all go back to their regular, normal lives, which she all knew they missed a little.
But now there was a question she'd been avoiding thinking about for most of their journey - which home would she go to? Returning to Kazus was what she wanted to do; for all that she'd apparently been born on the Overworld, the small village was her home and her family was the man she'd run away from over and over. If she returned to him, could she really be a smith? She enjoyed the work more often than not, but she'd hated how he'd always just assumed she'd want to follow in his footsteps, the lengths he would push her to, the amount of work she'd give her. How disappointed he was when she didn't learn something as fast as he wanted, or at all. She didn't have his natural talent for smithing; enough hard work could fix that, but he seemed to overestimate the amount of hard work she was physically capable of.
But she owed him so much for raising her. He hadn't had to take her in when he'd found her - he just had, and had loved her as if she was his own daughter, not even minding that she wasn't the boy that he'd probably wanted. His home and his laugh meant safety. And she was being selfish, she knew, objecting to his pace - she knew that not all of her objections were valid. Maybe... Maybe she could talk to him. She wasn't entirely right, but she wasn't all wrong; maybe if she could just show him why she didn't like it, he'd understand. He usually understood really well.
The sound of Luneth laughing loudly behind her pulled her out of her reverie, and Refia smiled as she pushed off the rail of the airship and went back to join her friends. She had an idea - it was even a good one, she thought. She'd see what it brought when she reached home.
