tea and scheming

*The nearest kitchen isn't all that close, but they take the walk in silence. Sayu is a little too disgruntled to start with the idle chit chat, not to mention wondering whether or not this is a good idea. She'll have to vet this L a little more before she tells him anything particularly serious. And nothing that could get the Light she knows ( Read more... )

[The sudden, irrational idea that tea with an inordinate amount of sugar would wash away the bitterness, and he understands the irrationality, but in the moment simply doesn't care.]

"Yes, and I prefer sugar cubes."

[Eyes locked onto Sayu's every movement, L speculates on her words, biting ruthlessly, unconsciously into the flesh of his finger.] An accomplice. This carefree girl? No. It couldn't be, yet clearly, she believes knows something about Kira which I do not.

Ms. Yagami. You implied you knew more than I of your brother's criminal activity; in fact, you appeared frightened of retaliation in the event he overheard. Please, tell me what you know.

Of course I'm nervous about retaliation. I love my brother more than anyone in the world, but we both know that he's incredibly ruthless. It's really, really important that I not be seen to be coming between him and what he wants, for everyone's safety.

As for telling you everything I know, I'm not going to do that. First of all, I don't even know what world you're from, or if it'd do any good. Second, there are consequences I don't want to provoke. On top of this, and on a more personal note, you've been kind of officious and unpleasant so far, and I hate Mello and hold you responsible for socializing him so bloody poorly.

Do you take milk?

It's true that I believe Light would kill his family in order to save his life; if fact, I'd thought should any of you discover his identity, you'd already be dead.

In terms of consequences, are you saying he has a notebook? I don't want to believe that Kira would kill with his own hands.

No milk, just sugar, please.[L's eyes roll to the ceiling as he thinks about his Mello, how effectively he saved him, L.]

You're incorrect. I've had no hand in Mello's care.

I know that one Light has had access to a note here, and has used it, only to discover that it's effects aren't lasting, and the person killed returns to life in short order. It's Lights who are going to be sent home, and will then make decisions whether or not to kill their Sayus that I'm worried about.

*She sets the teacups on the table, then the box of sugar cubes, neatly adding one to her cup. Shoot, she'f forgotten the spoons.*

Maybe it's underparenting, then. But whatever happened, I suggest you take some responsibility for what a psychopath he turns into. It's what you do, arrest criminals, right?
