PART 2 - RANDOM QUESTIONS
What's the concept ?
An illustration art for a Sam and Dean fan fic by dragonspell called Autum Leaves, here is a quick summary :
In the weak light of early morning, the autumn leaves are starting to paint the woods in reds and golds and a burning orange. On some level or another, Dean knows that it’s beautiful; he does. He's just got to find Sam first.
And "interesting" stuffs ensue, of course. Just in case you were wondering
What came first, the art or the fic ?
The art! We wanted to collaborate again with DS (god, we are having fun, it should be illegal
) and as I had a draft for this piece of art in stock, it was just the right occasion! However the first version I imagined was very far away from what you have in this post :
It wasn't called Autumn Leaves, it was called Dad will never know and the boys were laying in the grass with the Impala in the background. However, I realized quickly when I started the CG painting that the field wasn't a very good setting. It didn't fit at all with the intimacy of the scene because it's a wide open space. I needed a set where you got the impression that Sam and Dean were like protected by the environment around them (I don't know if I am very clear here...
). A forest with bushes, shadows from the trees, and some autumn leaves on the floor was just perfect, not to mention that I could enhance the impression of intimacy even more thanks to shadows and highlights and an orange palette.
However, the first real CG draft I sent to dragonspell was a little bit different. The boys were on the edge of a river. DS had the idea of turn the river into a cliff. I added a horizon line and a couple of trees and...voilà!!
More "smutty"collaborations with dragonspell in the future ?
Hell yeah! We are currently working on 2 other projects together. Neither the arts nor the fics are finished so I can't tell you when we are going to post but as John Winchester once said "(We are) working on it...."
PART 3 - A VERY SHORT TECHNICAL RAMBLING (for once...)
What software did you use ?
Softwares : Photoshop CS - Painter Essential 3
Tablet : Wacom Graphire 4
How long did it take ?
For once it's hard to tell because I didn't draw it in one or two sessions but in practically one month. I started, dropped, came back to it. I would say around 25 hours I think.
What brushes did you use ?
A lot of useful predefined brushes without which it would have been impossible to draw this damn forest.
Paint over ?
Sam's nose and mouth. I don't paint over faces but here, I lost patience. It happens
Writing drawing is hard....
