Living in Houston has put the fear of god in me about getting murdered in the middle of the night. Oh, dear. I don't know what to suggest besides meditation, checking the doors before you go to bed, and a nice cup of herbal tea to calm you down. That sounds aweful. I go through periods where I panic in my sleep (not about being killed or anything - just random panic)...they do pass, usually. If not, try to find a nice counselor that does a sliding scale of fees. Might do you good to talk.
