I had no idea Tracy Chapman was black. None. Not an inkling. I never liked her songs so I never bothered to look into her or her music. I kinda feel like a dumbass for it but in my defense, when I was younger, I thought Yo-yo Ma was a rapper so....

My parents agreed to let me start UNT without finishing high school, as long as I made up the high school credits somehow. I ended up walking with my original high school class after not seeing them for a year and a half. Anyway, before graduation, I drove over to my old school to hand in my transcripts from tcjc and UNT, and they wouldn't let me in. Tracy Chapman was there. Security everywhere.

That was 1996. It's been the running joke every hs reunion that we invite Tracy.
