Drabble - Tadaima

She stood there speechless as she stared at the oil painting in front of her.

She was looking at herself with a wide smile, standing under the sun with a sunflower tucked in her left ear.

She was not informed of this painting when the invitation card came from her alumni just two weeks back.

She took two steps forward and raised a hand to touch the scribblings on the bottom right of the painting.

O.Satoshi.

Her heart pounded faster than usual as she read out the name silently in her heart.

This was the name that never failed to stir up her emotions each time she sees or hears it.

“Ohno…” She mumbled.

“Yeah?”

A familiar voice entered her thoughts and she knew who the voice belonged to.

“So this is the painting that you’ve refused to let me see each time I drop by your house.” She said.

Ohno stood beside her and looked at the painting.

“It’s meant to be a gift from me to you.”

She turned to look at Ohno who smiled and took her hand.

“Welcome back…. And happy birthday Makoto.”

He pulled her into his embrace and hugged her tightly.

She knew he was a man of few words.
Just these few words from him were enough to make her cry.

She buried her face into his arms.
He spoke no more and stroked her hair.

“O-chan…”

“Hmm?” He whispered in her ear.

“Tadaima.”

drabbles, ohno
