I find it kind of interesting that the discussion of Brüno over at deutsche_kultur still manages to mirror the other discussions of cultural appropriation I've seen.

Henceforth, I think I am only going to reply to certain posts in such discussions with links to the appropriate chapter of Derailing for Dummies.

I've been kinda busy lately, so I haven't been keeping up with discussions on any communities. I wonder how long it'll take me to get bored or decide I shouldn't have clicked that link...

It's not nearly as bad as the usual discussion, but it's still the gamut of "Everybody does it", "It's not as bad as it could be", "You're just oversensitive", "You people do it too", etc...

I'm partly tempted to give Borat a try, but I think even if it was successful, I wouldn't like it. I find the experience of seeing people react in ignorance in what they believe to be a real-life situation... a bit too uncomfortable. I understand the satiric point, but I think it would be too painful to watch, even if it were comedically handled.
