(via steegness, from the Washington Post's OmblogSo, the Washington Post put a picture of two men kissing on the front page, to report on the District of Columbia accepting applications for same-sex marriage. Yeah, I love the not-prejudiced-but crowd. Because, y'know, gay citizens should totally have the same rights as straight citizens, unless those rights might make the straights uncomfortably aware of their existence. Basically, they should be equal, but invisible. I mean, being casual about your relationship is only OK if your relationship is acceptable to he majority, otherwise, you have to constantly assess what's allowed if you aren't in a traditional relationship.

Of course, how much do you want to bet that if it had been two women kissing on the cover, the reaction would have been entirely different?

I particularly love the commenters who state that, simultaneously, the Post knew this image would offend the majority of Americans, and that the supposedly offensive photo was put on the front page to drum up business.
