"I'm decreasing at the BEGINNING and the END of each row" - THIS

For the 2nd thing it sounds like it is saying:

Increase at beginning and end of every 7th row and every 8th row until you have 135 stitches on the needles. But I don't understand if it is asking for you to increase row 87, 88, row 97, 98 etc, or row 7, 8 row 14, 15, row 21, 22 etc. Does what I am trying to say make sense?

ugh, on part 1, i don't like your answer because it means redoing stuff! now i'm worried about the increases for the rest of it (were they supposed to be on each end? or just the actual end) - although i guess i should just measure it and see if it works as is.

part 2 is insanely confusing! GAH!

thanks so much for your answers!

i would agree with the above comment for the first thing...

but for the second...it really sounds like they want you to increase each end for the seventh row, and the *knit seven rows, and the increase each end on the eight row. then repeat * until you get to 135 stitches.

but look at what you're knitting...does it make sense to do the decreasing and increasing this way to get the shape you need? sometimes when i'm stumped, i try to look at it this way and it can help... lol

Yeah-- if you are confused, just look at the shape it's supposed to be. If it's symmetrical and they give you a stitch count you are supposed to have after decreases, you can kind of wing it and do the math yourself to double check what they are saying.

i have NO IDEA what sleeve-holes should look like... i should probably wait till i'm home and inspect one of my vintage sweaters for the shaping.

doesn't the pattern have pictures of what the shape of the pieces should look like?

I'd suggest either googling the pattern or joining www.ravelry.com & then looking it up there. I guarantee you someone's had the same problem & someone else who has completed the project has probably helped them fix it.

i looked at the pattern on ravelry but couldn't really find anyone saying anything useful about it. sigh.

I'd be happy to take a look at it for you. My guess is that if they want you to decrease but don't specify where it's so you decrease randomly in the row so there is no obvious line of decrease stitches visible. I've seen this a lot in patterns because they want it to look smooth.

If it says decrease at the end I would think you would only decrease on one end every row, which would even out as you turn your work.

This sweater has a lot of rows... haha.
