My calc gives a domain error. It's a TI-30X IIS. I didn't use i though, I used sqrt(-1).

using sqrt(-1) in my graphing calc won't work either, gotta use i. Damn imaginary numbers.

Domain error is probably because the calculator is in degree mode instead of radians. But yeah, just blame Euler like the link tzup gave below shows.

I think if anything, it's thing like that that should make you love math. I have to say that Euler's Identity always amazed me - because it does seem at 1st glance like an unreasonable relationship between to constants that are whacky enough in their own right.

There's a nice graphical explanation complete with an animation in this Wikipedia article which goes a long way towards explaining it I think.
