The Language Archive, and musings on boredom.

Shawna and I went to see The Language Archive at SCR on Tuesday night.  SCR showcases some of the best new plays out there, and this one was no exception. I liked the set; Shawna did not. The costumes were very funny, and lent a Wes Anderson-vibe to the production. We both LOVED the Ellowan characters, Alta and Resten, especially, which was ( Read more... )

First I want to say show sounds interesting.

Second... Megan, I find you one of the more remarkable people I know. I wonder sometimes where you came from. You really are quite extraordinary, insteresting and special. I have always found your personality so dear, drunk and sober. You are just a good heart. I realize, with some sadness, that I really haven't taken enough time to get to know you and Shawna better but, even after not seeing you for several months (MONTHS) I always feel warmly welcomed by just your first hug and your "hi honey". You make me laugh, you're sexy as hell and just reading your list of things you've done for the last few months of this year I FEEL like a whiney sit-at-home time wasting loser girl!! AHAHAHA! I'm glad we're friends and I sincerely hope that this year will lead to us interacting more.

BIG STUPID HUGS!! Because stupid hugs are more sloppy but squashy!

between you and me? (and whoever else reads this random comments section of yours) the Wonders was exhausting and wonderFULL and bittersweet. it's basically our one con a year now and i miss so many of those people so much. but i love singing more. it's hard and if i don't think about it, it doesn't hurt too much.

how's your FACE?

choosing betwixt loves is icky. i'm sorry. singing is more active than the other, though. that seems kind of a nifty trade.

my face is ok. there are good days and bad ones.

I am considering saving up my pennies for one of their courses. Their shows are just SO amazing. It is really heartening to have world-class theater behind the orange curtain.

Yup, the train effect was great. I love how they tried to blow out the speakers by making it so loud. Woke people up, I"m sure.

Ah, I wish you liked that epilogue. It moved me so....

Really? I loved the letter, certainly. I liked the explanation of the hug okay. The inbetweens? Not so much. Maybe it was the delivery. I don't know. I just felt *so* connected to the characters, up until that point. It was like tearing me completely out of their world, and reminding me that they weren't at all real.

Well, I interpreted the play as being primarily about loss. And when I looked at it in that context, I thought that the actors stepping out of character at the end created a very palpable "distance" between us and the characters--as if they were fading away. As if they themselves were coldly being "archived." For me, it was a special effect, rooted not in technical elements, but rooted in the text....

I saw change, adaptation, acceptance. I don't think that loss is a catastrophic event, but a catalyst. Is romantic love a necessity for happiness? If Mary never once understood the things that George was trying to say, then did that language ever exist between them at all? So then what is lost?
