so here is my real comment. I watched 30 minutes of season one and stopped watching because it was stupid beyond belief. I never went back in 1 or season 2. For some reason the previews for Coven intrigued me so i started watching. I am a big Kathy Bates fan (man I liked Harrys Law) and I thought the potential for her character in this show was enormous. But other than being evil personified the writers never took advantage. I kept watching hoping that would change and by the time it was apparent that wasnt going to happen I was deep enough into it to want to see the end. I am so glad its over and cant imaging watching season 4 if it happens. That time slot is SOOOOOO much better filled by The Americans...
I'm a big fan of Kathy Bates, as well (have you seen Dolores Clairborne?). Frankly, if they would have made her evil personified and either a) stuck with that or b) made her change/try to change from that via some sort of realistic character development, I would have been fine with that. Hell, they could have just zapped her with a "You aren't evil anymore!" spell, and that would have been terrible, but it least would have made sense. Instead, they were schizophrenic about whether she was good or bad or trying to get better or not giving a fuck or sad and missing her daughters or glad they're gone or whatever. By the time she died for real, I just didn't care anymore.
Do you recall what specifically about season one that turned you off so quickly?
no...just seemed stupid and formulaic to me. I am getting better at ditching shows that insult my intelligence. For example I gave The Following 4 shows before ditching. Each week was the same....cops get close, embedded serial killer fan foils them. This year I tried Helix on SyFy and after a couple episodes I couldnt keep up it was so convoluted.
A show doesnt have to make sense or be reality based for me to enjoy it. Just dont be formulaic and dont insult me. I read somewhere that this is the golden age of TV...i totally believe that. So much good stuff that I tape each week. For example this morning before work I watched last nights episode of The Vikings from History Channel. Just great TV.

Okay, that show is leaving my Netflix queue.

I say that all the time!
I don't really mind formulaic, per se. I do want the show to at least make sense. I'm fine with flying wizards and time-travelling robots and New York only having white people in it, but at least be internally consistent.
