Early on in Voile's work, a Chikorita bugs her! sweetscentmint April 20 2010, 05:58:08 UTC

And along came a Mint again, this time in more of a rush than anything. Today was not the first day the young Chikorita had come to help, as she dashed along to help Erika when she told everyone.

She skidded to a halt near Voile, taking care not to trip or mess up the soil. She seemed to be holding a few bags of seeds, and grinned when she saw her big sister friend. "Voile! You're helping too?! That's great!" She sat down. "Do you mind if I plant with you?"

For a second, Mint stopped planting and peered over at Voile's planting job, her head practically hovering over the soil.

"You know, I wonder if some people are planting these not only to help the greenhouse grow back, but maybe in memory of others? Like I could plant some of these for Mom and my friends back home! And even some for my friends here, and some for you and Mesprit!"

Voile regarded Mint very carefully. Planting flowers in memory of others? Who would she plant flowers for? Her trainer was the first person she thought of, and with it the immense sting of being apart from him. And that increased all too easily when she realised she was probably playing with fire.

"I didn't think of that," she confessed. She didn't know why she hadn't either. It seemed like something she should have zeroed in on immediately. Yet she hadn't. Well, someone was only five thousand miles away on the mental metre.

"I think that's a good idea. It's touching. I'm sure even those who aren't here will appreciate it."

"Yeah, let's plant some for people!" And then she began quietly deeming some seeds, "I'll plant you for Ms. Erika, and you for Voile, and you for Mesprit, and you for Fuel... you for Mom, and you for Caterpie back home..."

Once again, she cycled through the people she could plant for and realised she had eerily come up short, sitting next to Mint. A seed in a hole. A lone seed in a hole. Did a seed feel loneliness when it was like that? Perhaps not. The soil would act as a blanket and keep it warm. It would be like a mother's embrace.

And then she had a question, one she wasn't sure why she hadn't asked before. "Mint, what's your mother like? Is she anything like you?"

Oh, her mother? Mint could answer that one easily in a million sentences. "My mother's a Meganium, and she's taught me a lot!" She began planting the seeds she previously deemed for people. "She's kind, caring, and she's looked out for me! She keeps telling me I'm a lot more energetic than she was, although 'all Chikorita are energetic.'" She looked back up at Voile. "So I guess I'm a lot different than her!"

A Meganium... Voile didn't know any of those. She saw back thoughtfully and tapped her chin in quiet contemplation. "I'm sure your mother's very proud of you. Does she know you came all of this way?" After all, Mint had been the one talking about making trips home. Surely she had plans of seeing her mother eventually.
