Samus time, anytime. icequeen_aran November 1 2011, 03:49:40 UTC
Dances, dresses, and social celebrations were never Samus' forte, chaparone or otherwise. Her more-than-extended stay here at the Academy had exposed to her plenty of these in varying degrees, but she had to admit this was the first full-costume gathering she had ever been to. Identity concealment could be very useful for a busy bounty hunter. Disguises could be a convenient tool... or an utter nightmare to combat.

This was just for... fun.

Fun. Not much fun she was having trying to keep an eye out for suspicious activity and guess who was who from under the metal rim of her mask. It obscured the top half of her face and came to a point over her nose not unlike a bird's beak. Near her temples it formed a feathered crest above her ears, resembling wings. The white and gold gown that clung fairly tightly to her body was similarly adorned with wing-like protrusions on her shoulders and down her backside, while forearm cuffs and knee-high heels (finally, a little bit of height) complimented her naturally fit physique. The busty blonde ( ... )

Yearbook photos. If a skeptical raise of an eyebrow couldn't be seen from under the helmet, it was clear in her voice.

"Take them elsewhere, or ask first."

"What, afraid the camera will add ten pounds?"

That voice. He recognized that voice. The mysterious woman who refused to show her face in a video on his first entry to the network. And he still didn't get to properly see who she was! Man... He'd find out at midnight.

"Yes." "Look who's talking, Fatty West."

Samus did have the pleasure of putting a name and a face to the voice she was hearing, much less there weren't any other photographers on campus (that she was aware of, at least). She also had a hunch of a dorm number. Right now that name and masked-face was getting a grumpy frown.

"For not wanting any trouble you seem like the type that has a bad habit of getting into it, Frank."

"THAT FAT WASN'T CANON."

"What can I say? It's a curse." But for the sake of his precious baby and probably also his groin, he let the camera hang freely.

"You know, one of these days I'm going to see how you really look, Samus."

A challenge. Those were difficult for the bounty hunter to resist, though Frank probably had plenty of opportunities any time she was teaching if he looked up her schedule.

"I'll make sure to keep my guard up." She made a mental note to slip out unseen before the night was over, at least.

"Controversially, do I even have to ask what you're wearing...?" As daringly as she was with his camera, she planted a finger under the bottom rim of his bright yellow mask, leaned forward a little and curiously tried to push it upwards.

He pulled his head away, one hand firmly on the top of his mask to keep it down. "It's a mask, just like the dress code says. A bit of a souvenir from Willamette."

He had to wash the bloodstains off and everything!

"Besides, no getting to see what's under it until midnight."

Fine! Fine. She backed off.

"Provided everyone actually obliges that tradition and doesn't sneak out before then."

Phoenix was starting to get bored of standing around at this masquerade, waiting for something to happen. He had talked to Ema, sure, and it was great to see her again, but he wanted to let her go off and socialize with the other students.

Phoenix was by no means a dancer, but this was kind of like a ball. Of course he wasn't looking for romance. No, that was the last thing he wanted at this point in his life. After the whole fiasco with Dahlia, and then Iris coming back into his life, he wasn't sure who he could trust anymore. Sure, he had feelings for Iris after he saw her again, but those dwindled fairly quickly after she was put away in jail for evidence tampering. No, he didn't need romance ( ... )

To help cull her general lack of enthusiasm of being here, Samus had taken to slowly patrolling around the borders of the stadium, taking care not to mingle too much in the middle of the crowd. Eventually, she settled and had taken a seat near the wall, legs crossed as she continued to monitor the Masquerade. She was, for a lack of a better word, also bored.

Bored and a little socially awkward. When Phoenix approached she took a second to size him up before responding with a slight nod.

"I am." The top hat made it difficult to identify him, so she outright asked. "And you are?"

"Ah, I'm..." He was about to give his name, but decided against it, due to the whole masquerade environment of "secrecy."

"I'm the new political science teacher," he said. Well, that was identifying enough. Phoenix didn't care too much about the secrecy of the masks, but didn't want to outright give his name. Although if they ended up doing introductions, he probably would. He was a lawyer, after all. Er, ex-lawyer, rather.

It was. It would do her no good to not at least be familiar with her co-worker's names. "Wright, right?"

A second later she realized the homophone/potential for many bad jokes and frowned at herself a bit awkwardly. Not her intention. Like he probably hasn't heard that one a million times.

"Capcom transfer?" She corrected.

It was a good thing Samus did not make a joke based on Phoenix's name. He had, of course, probably heard them all. And the one time he, himself, tried to make a joke about it, it fell flat. So, he was done with Wright puns. Yes he was. However, he figured Samus's comment was unintentional, so he thought nothing of it.

"Ah yes, Phoenix Wright. I am from Capcom." Well, there goes the anonymity. It didn't matter too much, though. This was a professional setting, and colleagues should know each other.

"And you are?"

"Aran." She answered. How could she ever forget his very professional referee-ing? "Samus Aran. I teach Armed Weaponry and BioMechanical Engineering down in room 214."

"It's nice to meet you, Ms. Aran," Phoenix said, offering his hand to shake.

Well, it was good to get to know fellow faculty. He still didn't know many of his colleagues, and had mostly interacted with students so far. Dr. Robotnik was really the only one he had the.... "pleasure" of interacting with so far, but Phoenix would rather not cross his path ever again if he could avoid it.

Phoenix was unfamiliar with armed weaponry or engineering of any sort, so he was pleased to see that Samus seemed like an intelligent woman who was able to teach these difficult subjects. He was not a combative man, but with all of the danger he has been in in the past as a defense attorney for murder cases, he thought perhaps he should obtain a gun license... or something.

The silvery visor of her helmet bowed a fraction of an inch, duly noting his hand; staring at it, and nothing more. "..." No hard feelings, Phoenix. You weren't the only one to get stiffed on a Samus handjobshake. (She will warm up eventually. Probably. Maybe.)

"I assume you've met Robotnik already, the former Political Science teacher." Or at least spoken with, given Phoneix's network introduction. The slight slight sneer on her lips was a good indication of how little Samus thought of the the man.

"He's an egocentric fat moron."
