He wasn't excited about that, nor did he want to see it, but he wanted to see him. To make sure he would be okay. The doctor told him he would recover, surely, and yet...
He shut his eyes tightly and knocked on the door. "May I come in?"

It took a few seconds and it was very weak but Mac spoke up. He was clearly still very much out of it. He didn't even recognize the voice at first.
Whenever N decided to open his eyes, it really was a pathetic sight. Mac was pale but still looking like he was sweating. It was like he was half dead, all the life came out of his usually healthy looking face. He looked incredibly tired too. His legs used to be hanging in the air, but since his circulation improved, they went down. However, the support system was still around his feet. He had an IV by which he was getting blood.

N rushed up to him, his face full of strong concern and pure anger.
"Who did this to you?!"

"...I don't...I don't know..."

There would be a man in a blue suit sitting crosslegged on a chair and more often than not, reading a book. If it wasn't a book, it was usually a Neentendo GS with the volume turned down in his hand. But there was nothing more than this man sitting in silence, and waiting until his friend could speak once again.
Every now and again, a blue canine kind of Pokemon could be seen beside him. It was usually standing to attention, guarding the door. Occasionally, a tiny plant-like Pokemon would look confusedly at the monitors but it would stay close and silent to its trainer, looking worried at the patient on the bed. Why wasn't he moving that much...?
And in his head, Riley was absorbed in thought.

Mac did stir awake eventually and he turned his head to face Riley.

But what to say, he didn't know what to say. So he's just going to try and smile. Lucario and Bonsly gave a small wave though.

His smile faded but he was still awake...
"...Were ya here...long?"

Knuckles was so glad that he could finally see his pal. He must have been here five or six times already with no luck. Once he'd come in and Mac had been asleep. Knuckles had just chilled for a couple of hours until it was obvious that the guy wasn't waking up any time soon. That was alright - the body fixed itself best when it was in a state of rest, after all, and that was the main thing.
Finally, he walked into the ward and saw Mac with his eyes open and moving. He breathed a releived sigh. Resisting his impulse to run over, he walked slowly, hands in pockets.
"Hey, man... Good to see you awake. You get my card?"
It was a small thing. Something he picked up at the Wallmark store with a picture of a cat on it, wearing boxing gloves and hanging onto the ropes. 'Hang in there, Champ!' was written in bold font across the top. He'd simply signed it, not knowing what else to write.

"Yeah, I got it," Mac said quite clearly. "That was the best card I've ever seen, man."
Mac smiled very softly. He was even sitting up at this point, wow. It hurt a bit still since he was stitched like no tomorrow.

He pulled out the visitor chair and sat a little closer to the bed.

"When I came to, I told 'em if anyone asked about me, they should tell 'em..."
Mac looked like he grew uncomfortable as he said that.
"I'm used to hospitals, Knux. Doctors told me the same thing. I...apparently was in somethin' serious and they were freaked out at first. I'm just lucky...that's what they told me."
He hated that word when it came to his own health. Like he was lucky he didn't die in that car accident.
"I need to take it easy for the longest I've ever had to, but they are really sayin' I'm gonna be on my feet and back to my old self. I'm a pretty healthy guy usually, Knux."
Pause.
"So you don't gotta worry no more, okay?"

He decided to wait until he figured the victim would be in better condition, and he even brought some flowers so he wouldn't come off as a completely heartless person only visiting to get information. Well, okay, that was why Phoenix was visiting, but he still felt terrible for the poor guy.
So, when he entered Mac's room, he smiled a bit, holding the flowers. "Hey there," he greeted, "I don't know if you know me, but I'm Mr. Wright, the political science teacher at Smash Academy. I wanted to see how you were doing."

"...Eh?" Mac said, in shock. He didn't know this man, but the gesture was nice. Mac was no jerk at all. "Oh, hey. N-nice to meetcha...I'm guessin' you know my name by now, hahaha..."
Obviously he came because Phoenix heard he was in here. He laughed but out of sheer lightheartedness...not really out of "joyous laughter".
"...I'm gettin' better, I guess."

"I heard about you on the news and from some of my students," he said, "And... Well, it's terrible what happened to you."
Of course it was terrible. He felt awful seeing the poor kid lying in the hospital in that condition, and he wasn't sure how to go about asking him for the details of his attack. He didn't want to make the student relive the attack or come off as a cold, unfeeling investigator, but at the same time, it was important. If this cruel attacker was going to be brought to justice, Phoenix had to know the details.

"Well..." Mac simply said, very bluntly too. "I'm alive, right? And I'm gonna be okay. So...it's okay, really."
Physically okay. Emotionally not. But he didn't want to worry a kind stranger who was probably here to ask questions. The cops did. And Mac assumed if he was seeing people he didn't know...he really assumed they wanted answers really.
"I guess you're here to know what happened, huh?"
