N never did get to see a human in this kind of condition apart from he himself. To see Mac injured and weak...

He wasn't excited about that, nor did he want to see it, but he wanted to see him. To make sure he would be okay. The doctor told him he would recover, surely, and yet...

He shut his eyes tightly and knocked on the door. "May I come in?"

"...Hello...?"

It took a few seconds and it was very weak but Mac spoke up. He was clearly still very much out of it. He didn't even recognize the voice at first.

Whenever N decided to open his eyes, it really was a pathetic sight. Mac was pale but still looking like he was sweating. It was like he was half dead, all the life came out of his usually healthy looking face. He looked incredibly tired too. His legs used to be hanging in the air, but since his circulation improved, they went down. However, the support system was still around his feet. He had an IV by which he was getting blood.

He, indeed, was horrified when he stepped in. He looked terrible. No, he looked downright insufferable. The condition he was in, it was something too astonishingly bad to ignore.

N rushed up to him, his face full of strong concern and pure anger.

"Who did this to you?!"

Mac winced at N suddenly having an outburst. It hurt right now to talk too much and it hurt even worse to see N so angry. Mac remembered how he was like when Mac boxed Sandman. And how N showed concern at their sleepover. It was too much. What was worse, Mac couldn't remember and wasn't even in the right state to try to remember what went down; let alone explain it.

"...I don't...I don't know..."

EVERYDAY (well, most days from November 30 onwards) auraqualia December 1 2011, 00:47:52 UTC
He often was there during the evenings and during the early tendrils of the morning.

There would be a man in a blue suit sitting crosslegged on a chair and more often than not, reading a book. If it wasn't a book, it was usually a Neentendo GS with the volume turned down in his hand. But there was nothing more than this man sitting in silence, and waiting until his friend could speak once again.

Every now and again, a blue canine kind of Pokemon could be seen beside him. It was usually standing to attention, guarding the door. Occasionally, a tiny plant-like Pokemon would look confusedly at the monitors but it would stay close and silent to its trainer, looking worried at the patient on the bed. Why wasn't he moving that much...?

And in his head, Riley was absorbed in thought.

Mac was moving barely. He was sleeping most of the time. The only sounds would have been from if Riley was playing a video game and the vital screens beeping in the background.

Mac did stir awake eventually and he turned his head to face Riley.

Riley turned his head when he heard the movement. The expression on her face was calm, but with a definite terseness to it. He didn't know how long Mac had been awake or aware of his presence, especially since he usually seemed to be around the times Mac was a sleep. Playing the guardian, perhaps?

But what to say, he didn't know what to say. So he's just going to try and smile. Lucario and Bonsly gave a small wave though.

Mac smiled softly. He hated pity. He hated it that he was here. He hated everything right now. He fought back...but here he was. A victim. He couldn't stop the murderer...Mac's positive mentality was, at this moment, completely shot. It hadn't been this low since...well, since THAT time. Mac was strong inside, but he'd have to be a rock to not have this psychologically mess him up. And it did mess him up.

His smile faded but he was still awake...

"...Were ya here...long?"

He visited on the first day and has checked back till Mac can reasonably see a few people each day. monotreme_101 December 1 2011, 01:49:46 UTC
[So this would be forward dated till the 5th.]

Knuckles was so glad that he could finally see his pal. He must have been here five or six times already with no luck. Once he'd come in and Mac had been asleep. Knuckles had just chilled for a couple of hours until it was obvious that the guy wasn't waking up any time soon. That was alright - the body fixed itself best when it was in a state of rest, after all, and that was the main thing.

Finally, he walked into the ward and saw Mac with his eyes open and moving. He breathed a releived sigh. Resisting his impulse to run over, he walked slowly, hands in pockets.

"Hey, man... Good to see you awake. You get my card?"

It was a small thing. Something he picked up at the Wallmark store with a picture of a cat on it, wearing boxing gloves and hanging onto the ropes. 'Hang in there, Champ!' was written in bold font across the top. He'd simply signed it, not knowing what else to write.

Knuckles, it was the best card and it actually made Mac laugh so much it hurt. Hahaha...ha.

"Yeah, I got it," Mac said quite clearly. "That was the best card I've ever seen, man."

Mac smiled very softly. He was even sitting up at this point, wow. It hurt a bit still since he was stitched like no tomorrow.

"Haha - I'm glad. Saw it and thought of you. Though... that ain't saying much bein' as you've been pretty heavy on my mind last week or so, pal. How you holdin' up? Doc said things are OK but... y'know. How much they can say is limited really bein' there's that whole.. confidentiality thing, huh?"

He pulled out the visitor chair and sat a little closer to the bed.

Been heavy on his mind...Mac knew Knuckles meant well, but it didn't make Mac feel the warm fuzzies he probably intended to make him feel.

"When I came to, I told 'em if anyone asked about me, they should tell 'em..."

Mac looked like he grew uncomfortable as he said that.

"I'm used to hospitals, Knux. Doctors told me the same thing. I...apparently was in somethin' serious and they were freaked out at first. I'm just lucky...that's what they told me."

He hated that word when it came to his own health. Like he was lucky he didn't die in that car accident.

"I need to take it easy for the longest I've ever had to, but they are really sayin' I'm gonna be on my feet and back to my old self. I'm a pretty healthy guy usually, Knux."

Pause.

"So you don't gotta worry no more, okay?"

While Phoenix and Ema had uncovered some clues about the murderer, it still wasn't enough. He didn't want to bother the student, since he didn't even know him, but he wanted to get as much information as he could about the attacker.

He decided to wait until he figured the victim would be in better condition, and he even brought some flowers so he wouldn't come off as a completely heartless person only visiting to get information. Well, okay, that was why Phoenix was visiting, but he still felt terrible for the poor guy.

So, when he entered Mac's room, he smiled a bit, holding the flowers. "Hey there," he greeted, "I don't know if you know me, but I'm Mr. Wright, the political science teacher at Smash Academy. I wanted to see how you were doing."

Mac was kind of half asleep as they started to drug him up a little. And he was still hooked to the machines. But he was alert when Phoenix came in.

"...Eh?" Mac said, in shock. He didn't know this man, but the gesture was nice. Mac was no jerk at all. "Oh, hey. N-nice to meetcha...I'm guessin' you know my name by now, hahaha..."

Obviously he came because Phoenix heard he was in here. He laughed but out of sheer lightheartedness...not really out of "joyous laughter".

"...I'm gettin' better, I guess."

Phoenix smiled sadly at Mac as he lay in bed, hooked up to every machine imaginable, draped in bandages all over his body and face. It was truly an awful sight, but at least the man looked like he was recovering. He hoped. At least he didn't seem to have any visible brain damage, since he was conscious and speaking.

"I heard about you on the news and from some of my students," he said, "And... Well, it's terrible what happened to you."

Of course it was terrible. He felt awful seeing the poor kid lying in the hospital in that condition, and he wasn't sure how to go about asking him for the details of his attack. He didn't want to make the student relive the attack or come off as a cold, unfeeling investigator, but at the same time, it was important. If this cruel attacker was going to be brought to justice, Phoenix had to know the details.

Well honestly, he had one bandage on his face. the bandage around his face was wrapped around his head as they were afraid he had a concussion somewhere. But it wasn't a major one, and it was healing okay.

"Well..." Mac simply said, very bluntly too. "I'm alive, right? And I'm gonna be okay. So...it's okay, really."

Physically okay. Emotionally not. But he didn't want to worry a kind stranger who was probably here to ask questions. The cops did. And Mac assumed if he was seeing people he didn't know...he really assumed they wanted answers really.

"I guess you're here to know what happened, huh?"

[Amaterasu had made herself busy patrolling the grounds of Smash and beyond, but she still found the time to leave fresh flowers in his room.]

[Mac always did like flowers, but he probably appreciates them more than ever. Even if he was feeling the worst, the flowers did make him feel warm and fuzzy for just a moment.]
