I'm going to go with novelty. I played WOW for a month or so a while back and got bored really fast. Once you realize it's FFXI-lite, and you're back at the beginning without even a storyline to keep up the interest, it gets old pretty fast.

I can see the value in logging on, fucking around for a while solo, getting some XP, and NOT being punished for refusing to group.

but I had an epiphany today. I can see why some people like the graphics. people like the cartoony look due to nostalgia. Take a look at ANY REALLY BAD 80's cartoon. look at the colours and anatomical proportions. WoW is like He-Man: Online (yes I realize there is a quest npc that that is a rip off). Big hulking guys, swimsuit model women, and giant riding cats!

in so far, it's fun just running around on my own, but I haven't been to a major city yet so the immaturity hasn't quite offended me yet. Though I've already been insulted by some twat-wafflw 12year old for not wanting to pvp.

For me it's the exact opposite. PC gaming is dead to me. You're the only non-Digital friend I have in FFXI right now :P As for events, I have a different shell for each event, so I pick and choose which events I want to do, and when I'm done with an event, I just stop going. However, I really am casual with FFXI, I only do two events at a time, and hell, I still don't have merits capped.

The only parts of FFXI I don't enjoy right now is drop rates on shit and being basically the last of my original friends in FFXI still playing.
