Veronica Mars word vomit

Jan 09, 2013 11:59

I'm having another Veronica Mars situation, that is leading me to write at length. And, in what may be a first for this journal, I'm focusing on two boys. And their friendship. Specifically Logan and Dick, and this scene.

I just have to respond to this post because: icon. Also, I love what you say, and I loved this show and now I am sad and angry all over again that they couldn't just pony up for another few episodes to GIVE ME CLOSURE, gosh darn it! *huff*

SO BITTER, BITTER ALL THE TIIIIME. Also bitter because it seemed like they might be setting up some future Mac and Dick interaction, and hacker!nerd girl/goofy surfer!bro adventures are really all I want from life. besides all the other things S4 could have given me that I wanted

THIS IS A GOOD POST. I'd never thought in-depth about how much Logan and Dick had in common. ;_______; That scene is one of my favourites and your analysis of the boys' relationship just makes it more awesome.

THANK YOU!

I hadn't really thought about just how similar they were, until I was writing this post. Because what is forethought?

Dick as psychotic jackass! YES.

Can we talk about what a lovely job this series did of deconstructing it's own stereotypes? YES BECAUSE IT WAS A GLORIOUS THING. I think my all time favorite deconstruction was the deconstruction of Lilly. Because it makes perfect sense that we would at first see her as this amazing, perfect figure. The series is told from her best friends POV, so of ~course Veronica thinks the world of her. And on top of that, she has already been dead a year when the pilot happens. So of ~course people are remembering the good things about Lilly. She's dead. And either you cared about her and are still grieving, or you don't want to speak badly about a 16/17 y.o. girl who got brutally murdered. But then time goes on, and there are flashbacks, and there are times when solving the case requires Veronica to take a really honest look at her best friend. And we find out that Lilly was not actually this paragon of sweetness and light. She wasn't that great of a person, a lot of the time. Not that she was "bad" she was ( ... )

The transference is so swift it's easy to forget Logan was once the most hated 09er.

Oh gods YES.

Everything about this, you said all the words. Lilly/perfection is a ship Veronica has a hard time letting go of. (And one I'll bet we could argue Weevil never fully recovers from. My bb! *pets*) And it's just so THIS SHOW that the biggest break down is that of the innocent, perfect Feminine.

and the first episode is when she is at an all time series high of lying to herself
I'm hitching my wagon to this star. This I believe. Veronica is best at lying to herself.

I really love this show to a borderline unhealthy degree. Did you see me spewing out feelings on my love resolution large!post?
I do, too.
No - I did not! I shall look for it in the next couple of days (remind me??)

Weevil's perception of Lilly as a perfect person is something I find really interesting. Because I think he views her as "perfect" in a decidedly different way than Veronica, or Logan, or Duncan views her as "perfect." Because Weevil, I think, saw a side of Lilly that the others didn't know many concrete details about, until after she was dead. It's harder to ignore the reckless, cruel, and manipulative parts of someone, when you are the dirty little secret on the side. Weevil was where Lilly turned when she wanted to feel like she was living dangerously, and he knew that, but he loved her anyway. Weevil experienced a whole different angle of Lilly's apparent "live fast" philosophy (and oh my god, the things I could say about Lilly as a person bent on self-destruction), than what Logan and Veronica saw. And I think it was that exact thing that made her so perfect to him. He knew she wasn't perfect, thus her perfection.

And it's just so THIS SHOW that ( ... )
