Let me tell you, as a person who was forced - due to lack of accessible funds, internet, and phone - to go w/o talking to anyone (with the exception of my co-teacher) for an entire month it sucks some serious balls to be lonely. I didn't even hear much English at all for that month. I was so socially deprived that I talked to some Jehovas for almost an hour. After that experience I fully believe that people need people. You can't be happy and be alone - it's horrible.

People in Canada don't understand what it means to be isolated and lonely.

You don't even realise how miserable you are - just that something is off - until you come into contact w/ people again. I wouldn't wish it upon the most horrible people in society
