Hey, did you ever have Dr. Gevirtz? If so, did you like him? Personally, he is the best math teacher I've ever had. He's run into some political difficulties, and I'm forming a Dr. Gevirtz fan club in response, and I'm trying to recruit...

I did have him. I can't say I had a mathematical epiphany in his class, but I do like him for his quirks :-)

...what sort of difficulties are happening, btw?

I don't know too many details, but AP Calculus, Multivariable, DiffEq, and Linear Algebra are now offered for "dual credit" as an option, where you can get BSU credit for academy-taught courses, provided you pay an extra $250 per course. Anyway, this put these classes under the jurisdiction of the BSU math dept

Okay, so I know this is like a year afterward, but I was at the academy for all that nonsense.

Pretty much, Gevirtz thinks that Matlab is retarded and kind of unneeded. BSU thinks otherwise. Because he said no to all of that, BSU wanted to "supervise" his class. Gev thought that was crazy, and was kind of in a sour mood the day they came. I guess things didn't go so well. It was all a bunch of political crap.

Gevirtz ended up teaching the one-semester "I can't do math" calculus class. Also, the stats one of the same variety. Things didn't go too well. A lot of the students were really lazy and upset him a lot. Also, said students really couldn't learn from him I guess.

I graduated last year, so I haven't gotten the chance to talk to him since.

Sorry for the complete randomness, but I thought you might want to hear from somebody who was there when all this happened.
