I've always envied Takoma Parkers for belonging to so definite a group. You all seem to know each other, and have the same experiences. And your downtown is a pleasure. Your houses are cozy and possibly historical, nothing like the cruel enormities that spring up all over Silver Spring.
Silver Spring doesn't have an identity. We're the parts of Montgomery County that aren't cities - we don't even have a mayor. If you look at a map, we just stretch really far up Georgia Avenue and just as far up Columbia Pike. We don't have that sense of community.
Of course Silver Spring has an identity, it has the Silver SprUng campaign! :)
But I do think our county government could have taken greater pains to divide the montgomery county up into reasonable looking blocks that, if not cities, could at least be city-like. Areas like Bethesda and Potomac seem to expand until practically forever in every direction, and confuse me greatly. :)
I know that quote/ that idea/ St. Augustine intended to suggest that our own selves are unknowable because while we are human and falliable (sp), God is infinite and all knowing, so he'll always have a better picture of us- so maybe its dubious for me to like only that part of the idea, while not quite agreeing with the religious aspect of it- but I like it alot anyhow
( ... )
I continue to protest that he did not have a face like Nicholas Cage/a weasel! But I did know about Pelagius. I give the movie props anyway because it mentioned him at all, if in a fairly misleading context. And now I am online and you are not; therefore, you lose. :)
now I am online and you are not. wah. But I was going to tell you where I found ulysses-
www.blackmask.com, a link I got through that neil gaiamen blog- just another reason he's Super Cool. :) Check it out, they have science fiction, and other stuff that ought to be under copyright, but apparently is not. Its darling. :)
