I've gotten in the habit of, instead of forwarding them on to nine dozen people, replying to the person who sent me the latest "good luck charm" and saying "I don't do chain letters, but thanks for thinking of me." Most of 'em tell you to send a copy back to the person you got it from, anyway, so I figure I at least get that base covered.

On the rare occasion that the sentiment is something that I actually agree with, I'll rip out all of the "forward this to half of your address book OR ELSE" bullshit before I forward it.
