Character: Sawada Mayumi
Series: Carved 2: The Scissors Massacre
Character Age: 17
Canon: Life was going great for Sawada Mayumi. Her oldest sister was getting married, her crush (and sempai) gave her his address, she'd made a track record at school... Nothing could have been better. At least until her sister's ex-boyfriend broke into their house and, in a fit of mistaken identity, dumped sulfuric acid into Mayumi's face, melting flesh and bone. Suddenly her happy life and family are both in tatters and an ancient bloodthirsty spirit begins to stir...
After the accident, life changed drastically for Mayumi. She lost most of her previous cheer and became glum and rather morose. She is now quiet and internalizes her problems. She allows her classmates and former friends to torment her, feeling only sadness as they spread rumors about the whole family. Somewhere deep inside she still cares and wants desperately to believe that she will be pretty to someone. Until then, she waits in near-complete loneliness, pretending to be happy with all her might so it won’t draw more negative attention to her loved ones. She is also an avid penpal of her Sempai, never letting him know how sad and lonely her life has truly become.
Notes: 1) Mayumi spends all of her time in a medical mask to hide her scarring. 2) Mayumi is being apped before the funeral of the two girls the spirit within her murdered.
Sample Post:
“Dear Moriyama-sempai,
Today, I arrived at a very strange, out-of-the way rehabilitation camp. I’m sure I’ll make lots of new friends here! It’s called the Camp For Unfortunate Disfigurements, which is a lot to say, but they’re supposed to be the best out there at what they do. It sounds exciting, doesn’t it? A whole place full of people like me who can help one another get well, it’s great! I’m sure I’ll continue healing here even faster than before. Maybe I’ll even take part in some of the classes they run for the campers.
Please continue to take care,
Mayumi.”
I probably shouldn’t mention all the weird things about this camp. That means leaving a lot out, but that’s just going to have to be for the best. Who knows what he’d think if I told him about that male nurse who checked me in? He was so hairy, he almost looked like a gorilla! And after the exam, he said he was so happy to see me and that he put a banana in his pocket. What does that mean? If it even means anything, anyway. Such a weird guy.
At least the other campers have all been nice enough to me so far. None of them have asked about what happened or anything, not a single word. Not being the center of attention for once is really refreshing. It’s been a long time... I mean, I still stick out. That much won’t change. But there are guys whose whole bodies look like they’re being held together by strings, and they always seem to be in good spirits. Nobody even looks at them twice, but that’s probably because anyone who gets too close winds up being bitten. I think one of them broke a tooth biting somebody’s head during lunch, all because that other person was being rude.
Talk about scary... Tomorrow will be just better than today, I hope. I didn’t go over to the face-painting class today, if anything run out of an old tent in the middle of a field can really count as a class. They’re just goofing around. Besides, I wouldn’t even be able to join in on all the fun like this. And just look how happy they all are over there, getting made up to look like... like they’ve been burned and their mouths slit...
Stop it. “Your face” isn’t a joke when it’s the truth!
