Granted that the family on my mother's side isn't all that large, but even so it is strange to comprehend that I'm now the most senior member of it.

Geez, if I'd ever had any kids, I could be called the matriarch. Thank dog for small favors!

Richard's the eldest male on his side of the family--and he's only in his early 60's. Of course, there are a number of much older female members--one of his aunts (his mother's eldest sister) is 99. With the ways families are so scattered around the country these days, these things don't mean the same thing as they did a couple of generations ago.

Yah, I'm only in my early 60's too. But my family aren't scattered -- everyone else is still in Minnesota.

There was a little article in the newspaper the other day about the oldest (I think) known person in the world, a lady who had just turned 115. This is hard to comprehend, 99 is mind-boggling enough!

It's amazing how many more people are making it to 100 (and beyond) these days! Much better medical care helps--amongst other life-issue variables.
