I heard on NPR this morning that in Baghdad alone the average monthly death toll is 630 people. That's 21 people every day, nearly one person every hour. It's almost inconceivable.
Is it? I'm sure more than one person dies in New York every month. What's the population of Baghdad, and are these deaths total, or just deaths due to violence?
The story made it sound as if these were deaths due to violence, though there is always some ambiguity in how those numbers get reported (thank you, President Bush). according to Wiki, the Baghdad metro area has about 8m people.
