My tatties are flowering, my carrots (the few that survived) look like they are flourishing, and my lettuce is huge.  I am desperate to dig up the tatties to see what is happening underground but have to be patient till the flowers go and the stalks die back.  The lettuce I have no idea what to do with, I did not anticipate so many of them, never

According to the veggie book I just inherited from my mum, you want to pinch off those tattie flowers.

Really? wonder why, I'll send Alex out to them now.

probably so the plant puts all it's energies into the potato instead of the flowers and foliage, same reason I'll be pinching out all the side shoots on my tomatoes tomorrow :)

Ok mine shudder in abject terror when they see me coming but fingers crossed nothing is dead yet! Hoorah!

dunno if the aphids that have invaded the lettuce will be nice too, I have however acquired a ladybug or two which should help.
