What do you say on here that you don't want your parents to see? I've admitted to far worse on my LJ, but I've already allowed my parents to digest my good and bad decisions in life.
my parents don't have my permission to read this journal to know that my father does anyway is invasive and disrespectful and it makes it that much easier to not care about what he has to say
That's understandable. But if that's the case, you should have gone friends only in the first place. I mean, after all, there isn't really a set of rules defining what's acceptable when it comes to open internet material (short of copyright infringement, but that's a different debate altogether). I certainly wouldn't put a journal on the internet expecting certain people not to read it because they don't have my "permission." I mean... it's the internet. Lol. So if you find it invasive and disrespectful, definately go friends only; but don't be too hard on your dad for reading material that was open on the web. :-)
If I read something funny on LJ or something I tell them. They know I at least communicate with people over the site, but they've never been like, "Gee, I wonder if my boy keeps a detailed journal on there?" They wouldn't want to bother looking, anyway.
