The man that planted the bombs that killed Rachel Dawes and Robin Rice and would have killed anyone at the party as well if a choice hadn't been made-
The man was found yesterday. When he was confronted, he grew more and more erratic. He had a gun, and he had turned himself into a bomb. He wanted someone else to shoot him, but everyone there refused. They would not let the city or this man turn them into a monster. They would not play into the hands of the madmen.
The man said he was sorry. I truly believe that in his last moments he felt tremendous guilt. For that brief moment, he did not seem so mad but clear and human again. Then he turned the gun on himself. He's dead.
I thought it was important to tell you all this so you wouldn't live in fear. The man is gone, and it isn't exactly justice at all but he is not continuing on free to do as he pleased after what he's done. I also thought it would be important to show you all that what he said isn't necessarily true. I've lived here for three and a half years, and I'm still here. I'm not killing anyone. It's something that we have to watch out for within ourselves. Yes. We can't simply think it will never happen to us, but know that you do have the strength and capability to fight it, know that no matter what happens to you, you are not alone in this universe.
No matter how many people the CLF kill or torture or maim or put on crosses. No matter how many mad men try to force us to make impossible choices. No matter how many enemies take us and beat us in dark rooms where there's no escape from pain. No matter how many disasters bring our homes to the floor around us. No matter how many times we find ourselves in darkness without ever wanting to leave it.
We are never alone.
I cannot promise you much in this universe, but I can promise you that.
