The day is warming; there are flowers lining the edge of the wood, bright splashes of yellow and violet against the dark earth. Ilmarinen has set snares along the rabbit trails, which he is checking carefully today. So far, he has found nothing tangled in the wires, but he is patient. He would not mind company as he walks slowly and carefully ( Read more... )

Ragnelle meets him after a few moments; she has a crocus tucked into her dark hair and the moss between her fingers is giving her hands a green tinge. "Good sir," she says, smiling.

He smiles in return, and it reaches his eyes. "You look well this morning, lady."

Ilmarinen laughs, wiping his hands on his trousers--he is not wearing his apron this afternoon. "I am only hunting today."

Slink slink. The spring has progressed far enough that his hair is starting to turn chestnut again, back from the winter ermine. He pads along behind Ilmarinen for a considerable time before even bothering to make himself seen; he has a small bird in his mouth, holding it the way a fox would, and his clothes are wild and bloody--though that can't possibly be from just the bird, little thing that it is.

The hunting knife is in his belt, and the bow over his back.

He registers some surprise when at last Mabon lets Ilmarinen see him--then nods acknowledgment. "You have had good luck in hunting."

He grins, and drops the bird into his hand. "Small things. What are you hunting?"

"Rabbits for the stewpot--but they have evaded all my snares well." He looks over the blood on Mabon's clothes, and refrains from asking.

Let's be pretending all of the Polish people (and to a lesser, but still great, extent their typist) didn't entirely fall off the face of the earth. In which case Michal is out doing Michal-y stuff. He may have disappeared for a time. He probably doesn't remember it.

If he did vanish, Ilmarinen probably thought he was with Alcuin--and since Alcuin vanished, who knows? It might be the truth.

He will return from his hunt with Mabon laden with deer meat, which he will hang from a hook outside the smithy. "Stew tonight--the rest, we'll smoke soon," he calls to Michal.

Michal looks up at the deer and whistles appreciatively. "Where'd you get that from?"

"Hunted it, out in the orchard." He takes his bow from his back and goes briefly into the cottage to put it away, then comes outside again with a knife to skin the deer. "There were many eating bark there--ten or more, perhaps a dozen. I have never seen so many deer all gathered close together."
