i've done it, back in my dark and distant past, but I also know that if you want to be able to use the wool, hiring a shearer is the way to go. plus it will be better for the sheep, who greatly resent the process....
a boy I dated used to make his pocket money by driving around in his pickup and shearing sheep for people (he was good and won awards at the county fair every year :)). I would assume that there are kids doing that today?
Great Idea. I'll try the 4H clubs and FFA. I betcha some enterprising teen can take care of them. I've heard it isn't expensive to have a pro do it, something like $7 per sheep, it's the barn visit that costs.

If nothing else, they'll take care of the black berries and get the yards back under control before they go back.
