I got into computers at 14 because my mother's job was in computers, back when they filled entire rooms. She was a keypunch operator, now called a data entry operator. I worked part time during the school year and full time summers and I made a lot more money than my friends did. I stayed in computers for 25 years, moving into medical transcription after the nuclear investigations industry fell apart. I did medical transcription while I was finishing my first career in computers and I still do medical transcription, writing in between the cracks and crevices of what time is left. In essence, I have had three careers but only one I love and still practice: writing.
I agree. We should remember our dreams and where we came from. Thank you for reminding me where I was and where I am and where I still have to go.
