This entry is a question to scoreboard (or jsmitty_o, or, strictly speaking, anyone who can answer it). He hasn't posted in awhile, so I hope he actually reads this ( Read more... )

Just so I don't look like I'm ignoring you... I'd like to state for the record that I've already discussed this with you. =) However, like I said then, scoreboard can answer your questions and address the historic details more accurately than I can. ;)

GO BEARS!!!

Also, long story short (TOO LATE!) - Cal cannot go to the Rose Bowl at all now. They are locked into the Holiday Bowl and a date with Texas A&M and their evil POS coach, Dennis Franchione. Call must win this game. It is a moral imperative.

There are three polls: the ESPN poll (coaches with a vested interest), the Harris poll (dilettantes who may or may not be paying attention), and an average of half a dozen computer polls (so that somebody can pretend to have an objective measure of strength of schedule, quality wins, etc). Each team's ranking in all 3 polls is averages together. The top 2 get pulled from their normal bowl matchups and put in a special 1-vs-2 title game on January 8 ( ... )

Interesting. That does seem rather forced and convoluted.

And, what about that Big Game. That was a little closer than it really needed to be 'eh?

Cal, under Tedford, has a way of coming up short in games with bowl implications. They either spit the bit (USC '04, Arizona and USC '06) or let teams hang around that shouldn't (Washington and Stanfurd '06, Southern Miss '04). Usually because Tedford is determined to pass the ball despite adverse conditions, wounded receivers, shaky QBs and perfectly capable running backs who could control the game on the ground if they were just given the ball.

I'd still take Tedford in a heartbeat for Vandy, but I sure don't want him going to Alabama.

I just want to say how odd it is for me to see Mark participating in ANY discussion about sports, let alone starting one!
