Busy year already.

Mom had surgery in January. She's home and doing great. She has a few more weeks off work, but I expect her to go back early. She'll be bored out of her mind soon. She sent Dad back to work after a few days. He was waiting around for her to need something, and just got on her nerves. :)

Pete's b-day this month. I have no idea what to get him. I had wanted to get him a new monitor for his computer, but I don't think that's in the budget. Boys are hard to shop for. Especially him. I can't think of any new computer games coming out that he's mentioned. I'll probably end up taking him on a shopping trip to Borders. He'll love that.

We're still in the Cisco class and loving it! We just covered an introduction to Access Control Lists. Not as scary as I thought. This quarter ends in March. At that time Pete and I will go take the first of the 2 tests to get our CCNA certification.

My sister-in-law is getting married May 13th in Seattle. Yay! I'm very happy for her. I've never met the guy, but from what I've heard he's a very nice guy, with a good head on his shoulders. He's in the Air Force and flys planes. Cargo planes I think. I hope to get to see sylvan while I'm up there, if it's not BayCon weekend.

My friend Sally is teaching me how to quilt. It's a wonderful outlet so far. I'm planning my first quilt. Probably a single Irish chain based design in blues. I've started drawing out some other designs for later. Sally and her husband Bruce are really awesome. In some ways Pete and I are just like them. It gives me hope that we'll be able to stay married as long as they have. Good adult role models.

Our drive-through coffee lady wrote a book! Patty is really cool. She owns the coffee place and is a registered nurse. She wrote a diet book called "The Tortoise Diet". She lost over 120 pounds. Some good info in the book. I'll try to post anything interesting for those who are interested. Yes, I'm plugging the book. Good book, and getting a copy will make Patty happy. I'm about half way through it. All very common sense things. Lots of good hints and tricks. She especially promotes documenting and journal writing daily. Moods, feelings, eating journal...

Doctor and dentist appointment this month. I skipped my December dentist appointment, so I'm overdue now. Just a cleaning. I'm not looking forward to it.

Saw my happy drug lady this week. I've been good about taking my pills lately. It makes a difference. She asked me when I wanted to stop taking them. I freaked out a little bit. I could conceivably stay on my meds for the rest of my life. She even said that I could stay on them through a pregnancy if I was to have a kid. We'll be talking about how long I want to take the pills in 4 months at my next appointment.  I know some people consider antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds to be a crutch, a sign of weakness, a sign on the pill popping lifestyle Americans live. And I've thought that at times too. But I can feel the difference in just a few days of missing my pills. I'm short tempered with Pete. Just getting out of bed gets harder. I go to bed earlier at night. No motivation to leave the house. More than that, really. Leaving the house becomes an idea that scares me. There were days I wanted to tell Pete to take a taxi home from work because I didn't think I could leave the house. That's an expensive cab ride. Sometimes I need to remind me of these things or I wonder why I take the pills daily. I convince myself that I don't need them.

Anyway....

Work is very slow tonight. Superbowl Sunday. I'm taking a (long) break from things I should be doing. I have 3 websites I need to finish editing and get uploaded, customer domain renewals to process, many chapters in the Unix SA Handbook that my boss wants me to read, homework I could be doing if I could figure out the Cisco router simulator, and I haven't worked on my personal website in months.

Ok. Enough procrastinating.

Almost. I'll take care of KoL (I'm a Turtle Tamer!) then I'll get back to work.
