Sailormoonland Community Rules
Welcome to
sailormoonland, a community where we celebrate our love for one of the best anime ever created, Sailor Moon! Before requesting to join the community, please take a few moments to read the following rules. Most are self-explanatory, but hopefully they’ll clear up any potential questions.
Getting Started
The first thing to do is submit your application
HERE. Be sure to read the rules and fill it out completely. After you've submitted your application, you will be placed into one of the three teams (Inners, Outers or Chaos). You will also receive two invites: one for
sailormoonland and another for your team community. Why are those communities members only? Because we don't want one of your other teams sneaking a look at your secret plans! Each team community will have their own introduction post, and also possibly their own memes, activities and discussions. Go introduce yourself, and have a read of the other members' introduction posts--who knows, you might instantly find someone who shares your interests!
Your next step is to join all the other sub-communities--you can find a list of them
here. Some of these communities will require a mod's approval for you to join, and you will usually receive it within 24 hours. You can start participating STRAIGHT AWAY!
You will earn points for participation in games and activities, for voting in challenges, and for winning challenges. Your team mod will keep track of those points, and banners will be awarded to those who earn the most points for their team at the end of each major battle. There will also be an overall team winner at the end of each battle, and points will be reset at the beginning of each new battle.
Battles generally last for three months at a time, and conclude with a frantic final points-grabbing extravaganza known as Birthday Fortnight. All members born during the three-month battle earn lots of extra points!
General Behavior
1. As noted on the application form, your journal must be at least three months old and show signs of use before you can apply. You must also abide by the LiveJournal Terms of Service by being at least 13 years old. Anyone who is found to be underage will be removed from the community immediately.
2. No swearing or tyP!inG lYKE DiS. Please keep things clean and comprehensible. Remember that we have members of all age groups here, so try to keep things PG.
3. Do not bash other teams or your teammates. Do not bash other characters or actors. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but bashing is just not cool. Saying, "I think Usagi is sometimes too immature for my liking" is fine, but "OMG WTF I HATE USAGI GO REI LULZ!!" is not. Basically, just be nice!
4. Absolutely no plagiarizing of any kind is allowed! Submit only your own work. If a challenge allows you to incorporate work made by others (such as fanart) you must always give credit.
5. Spoiler warning: Some of the activities here may cover material from all of the anime and manga, along with Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and Sera Myu, which means you may come across spoilers if you haven't seen/read all of the series. The best way to prevent this is to watch/read the series, unless you don't mind spoilers, in which case we're good to go!
6. Have fun! This is a great community with awesome people, so make sure you enjoy yourself!
Challenge Communities and Rules
We're set up in the same basic format as other Land-style communities, meaning we have sub-communities specifically for various types of challenges. The main three are
smlarcade for puzzles, trivia and games,
smlclassroom for writing, and
smlstudio for graphics. Challenges may be posted off and on in the other sub-communities listed above, but these are the ones that take place on a regular schedule.
Here are some general rules to keep in mind:
1. Whenever you enter a contest or challenge, please be sure to read the instructions carefully. Mods have full power to reject any submission that does not follow the rules, and we don’t want to have all your hard work go to waste.
2. You must ALWAYS sign your contest entries with your name and team (i.e. Shannon//Cosmic Narrator) or with a personalized sigtag that has your name and team. This allows mods to instantly know which team earned points. Failure to do this may lead to your entry being disqualified.
3. Unless otherwise stated, all contest entries must be created specifically for that challenge. You can't submit something you made previously.
4. Nothing of a graphic sexual or violent nature (suitable for adults only) can be included in challenges. This is because we want to give our younger members the opportunity to vote in all the contests, and if they can’t read or look at your entry, they can’t vote for it. If you wish to share a fic or piece of art you created that is of an adult nature, you may post it in Juuban Park under a cut or as a link with a suitable warning.
5. Do not show your contest entries to anyone until winners are announced. This prevents any sort of bias or cheating in votes.
6. To assist in keeping your entries a secret, any graphics you make must be hosted on an anonymous site like
Imgur or
Imageshack.
7. Many contests will have voting to determine winners. You are not allowed to vote for yourself, nor based on who you think might have created a certain entry. Give all the submissions a fair chance.
8. We encourage all our members to submit to any contest they like, even if they're not the best writer/graphics artist/puzzle-solver, etc. In almost all cases, entries are screened, and only the winners are revealed at the end. This means no one ever has to know which entry was yours, so there's no need to be embarrassed. Just enter, and who knows, maybe you'll find yourself improving! :D
Participation Requirements
In order to ensure all teams have an equal shot at winning, we attempt to make sure they all have the same number of active members. Since we all know it’s no fun to feel like you’re doing all the work, we do have some minimum participation requirements for the community.
Currently, we have three levels of membership, and you can decide which works best for you.
Active Members
- Active members will earn points for their Team by participating in a minimum of two activities every two weeks.
- AT LEAST ONE of these activities must be to enter an official contest. These are always found in Arcade, Classroom and Studio, and may also pop up from time to time in Stamping and the main Sailormoonland community.
- If you do not enter a second official contest, you MAY earn points in one of the following ways: Complete at least one set of banners in the Banner Squad (open to all members, just ask to join), make a sigtag shop delivery (three members per team at a time), or vote in TWO contests.
- We encourage you to participate as much as you can, as the more you do, the more fun you'll have, but these are the BARE MINIMUM requirements to remain active.
- Team Leaders will check member activity every two weeks and send out reminders to members who are falling short of these requirements.
Members on Hiatus
- We know that Real Life too often gets in the way of online communities, so you may choose to go on Hiatus during an especially busy time. Each Team will have an official Hiatus Post available to members, which you will need to complete.
- A hiatus can last NO MORE than a month and a half, which is exactly half a battle.
- PLEASE BE HONEST ABOUT GOING ON HIATUS! You will still be considered part of the official Team roster, so only choose this option if you truly believe you'll be coming back within that time frame. If something changes, just take a second to notify your Team Leader.
- If you go over your Hiatus, a Team Leader may contact you to see what's up. Again, please be honest about your situation. Don't feel bad about saying you're not able to become Active again just yet. Your Team Leader will help decide if you should become a Social Member (see below) or if you need to leave the community for the time being.
Social Members
- While earning points and winning Battles is all well and good, our first goal in this community is to share our love of Sailor Moon. If you reach a point where you know you will not be able to participate regularly, but you want to pop in from time to time to squee about the fandom and maybe enter a contest here or cast a vote there, you may become a Social Member.
- Social Members will remain a part of their Team and all the sub-communities, but they will NOT be counted toward the official roster number. This will allow us to ensure that all Teams continue to have an equivalent number of Active Members.
- If you reach a time where you begin earning as many points as Active Members on a regular basis, you will be asked if you can return to Active status.
If none of these options meet your requirements, you may choose to resign from the community by alerting your Team Leader. YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO RETURN TO THE COMMUNITY AT ANY TIME! Simply comment on the official application to either request reinstatement to your previous Team or ask for a re-assignment.
I have a question!
We’re all here to help, but in order to receive the best answer in the shortest amount of time, here are the best people to ask:
- If you have a question about a challenge or contest, ask the person hosting it. There should be a comment thread labeled Questions, and that’s always the best way to get in touch with the mod.
- If you have a question about basic participation requirements, need assistance feeling your way around the community, or just need a helping hand, try asking one of your Team Leaders.
- If you have other questions or don’t feel comfortable asking the above-mentioned mods, you are ALWAYS free to contact me!
Again, the most important rule in this community is to HAVE FUN, so get to it! :D
