Babyshambles report

jgfdjgkfdjgklfjdgkfdjgkdjfgkdfjgklfdjgklfd okay. You lot get it right!??! AAHKSJdfkjsdfkjsdkfsdjkf.

I've just calculated... All-together I've spent a bleeding 26 HOURS sitting on fucking trains!! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO WRITE, something .... normal?

Oslo is a beautiful city, very pretty. Although expensive (as hell!), but came to the conclusion that records are sooo much cheaper there, even in NOK! I bought some Libertines' singles and some cd's; The La's, THE DUKE SPIRIT (finally!!!!!!!) and the White Stripes' Elephant (no... I didn't have that. I blame the Swedish cd prices, duh).

And eerrr....my camera is such a SHIT camera, so it wouldn't take any decent pictures of the bands - the pictures came out black. I gave up and let galadflower and Hanni do all the photographing, yey.

Now I have Babyshambles' new single Fuck Forever (b-side Monkey Casino which I think is the best of the new ones) because it was avaliable inside of the festival.

Öya Friday the 12th (the best I can do right now)
I'm not as good at finding my way in cities as I thought I was! But I guess it can't be expected if you've never been there either... however, first it became a bit messed up with the trikk (tram) and what direction they went and when I finally got to the right place I ended up in front of the Öya festival volounteers. Err. It was kind of embarassing because the guy I asked for directions was so tall he couldn't hear me talking so he had to bend down! Well, at least I came somehow right after that and found Helene, Zin and Hanni (they found me, I mean). They were queing up for tickets because Hanni and Zin didn't have, but the tickets sold out kind of long before it was their turn to buy. So unfortunately they had to buy tickets for like, the double price.

The gates opened at 12.00 and we strutted around in the area for a while, before placing ourselves in front of the biggest stage Enga (where Babyshambles were due to play later on) and I-don't-know-what-time Don Juan Dracula came on - the first band of the day. Hehehe, they were pretty hilarious and entered the festival area in a helicopter! Then he ran through the crowd, and went down a ladder again and sang right into Helene's face, ahhahhh that was so ace!! They somehow reminded me of an older, Norwegian Kasier Chiefs - not necessarily musically, but the rest of it.

It was good weather all day, sunny and mostly blue skies - no drops of rain as it had been the day before. Later on in the evening it got a bit chilly but, well, it didn't rain and it was no thunderstorms or tornados.

After Don Juan Dracula, The Thing took over the Enga stage. They were presented as "garage jazz". A bit of advice: Don't ever go and listen to something that's described "garage jazz". What was that?! A forty-five minutes long BRRRRRRRRRRÖÖÖÖÖÖÖHLLLLLL - saxophone, drums and contrabass just doing each their own thing and it was just terrible. I mostly thought of water. At one point, the guitarist of Sonic Youth came on and he was a bit of a laugh with his orgasmic guitar playing. Jesus Christ, orgasm after orgasm and how terribly in love he must be with his guitar, that horny son of a gun.

And then it was time for Sissy Wish. Not that I actually could concentrate (Babyshambles were next on!!) but aawww, such a cute girl. She must be like Norway's Marit Bergman from what I can gather - singer/songwriter and flowers, yes.

After that, 17:05, came the downfall. Seriously, I think I died for a minute. Some men did the soundcheck for BabyShambles, first it went 5 minutes over said time, then 10, then it bordered to 15... then two of them 'we-run-this-place'-sort of men came onstage and said that they had a bit of an announcement. I guess I started to guess what would follow. The first man said, "all shows have been moved fifteen minutes earlier" but that was no news. Then he gave over the microphone to the other guy, and I was just staring blank then. There was a lot of press there, some where even English.

He said: "bla bla bla bla Kate Moss bla bla öron .. bla bla.. babyshambles kan inte komma till enga... bla bla bla... flygproblem... bla bla, de är alla här utom en notorisk person... bla bla bla... Paperboys"
(translation: ears, Babyshambles can't make it to Enga, flight problems, they're all here except for one notoric person.."

God. I couldn't believe it. I just stood there looking totally dazed and confused and stupid. Then Zin, Hanni and Helene tried to explain to me that all hope wasn't out yet: they were moving Babyshambles to another stage later on in the evening. There had been some problems in the customs department at the Oslo airport regarding our mr Doherty, so he had been stripped naked etc and were searched for drugs for 3 hours. Just some minutes ago I heard from Helene that they actually found cocaine on him..... oh no. Oh no no no no no. Don't do things like this Peter.

Babyshambles was due to play after Paperboys, a Norwegian hiphop band with two drumsets, saxophones (or similar) and some extra guests crowd-surfing here and there. At first I thought it was the frontman throwing his towel that he carried around all of the set (he knows his Hitch-hiker, he does) but it was actually a person. Erm. Yes I am very slow! And I shouldn't be writing about Paperboys here if it's in chronological order, 'cause they were almost last on.

Well, after we got over the Babyshambles shock we ran to the Sjøsiden stage to hold the places right up the front and after a while Death From Above 1979 came onstage! I'm not really familiar with their music but they were ace!! The drummer/singer (I don't do names, bwah) was really kewl and he took his shirt off, teeeheee. Man I gotta start listening to them.

After that my knees started hurting pretty much and we sat down in front of the stage until Annie came on. She had a pretty, green dress. I have nothing more to say but I knew three of the songs. And I've already written about Paperboys and seriously, I don't really have the energy to write more.

THEN. It happened, slags!!!!!!!!!!!

First a glimpse of Adam behind the drums. Then a Drew in a nice hat (me wants me wants) and he looked pretty and charming as usual. Then a Pat. THEN A FUCKING PETER DOHERTY. Oh My God. HE CAME. I was so amazed... I don't know, I didn't even look at one Adam, Pat or Drew again after that... I was just enchanted. Peter had his usual Fred Perry t-shirt, you know the red one, it was a bit trashy - so was the jeans - but sadly no hat. But pretti pretti hair anyway. It reminded me of an old Libertines pic, a bit long and messy and awww..AAAAAAAAAAAWWW.

It was a short set because Öya are not allowed to let noise escape the area after 11 pm or similar, but anyway. He came and we saw him. I don't care if I'm such a little teenybopper fangirl now because lskafjlkgjldfkdjglksjlkarwpepaödäöä! Here's the setlist from what I can remember:
  • Killamangiro
  • Sticks And Stones (one of the best)
  • Pipe down (the best song, 'cause I kind of let go of everything, such a kick!)
  • The Man Who Came To Stay
  • 3-5-2 days
  • In Love With A Feeling
  • Fuck Forever

It was a pity they didn't play Monkey Casino, Babyshambles, Albion or Blackboy Lane though, 'cause I really wanted to hear those live... but it doesn't matter. He was standing just a few metres away, OMG OMG OMG OMG.

He threw up onstage which was extremely important for Norway and Sweden (I read about it in Expressen today for example) to know. Vodka here and there omg how awful he is (I mean VODKA! hope it was Absolut ^_^), bumping the microphone against the cymbals, and everything! Scandal rocker indeed! What an unreasonable behaviour! God, give it a rest.

Oh Peter, I wanted to meet you. But I can die happy now.

peter, events, good looking boys, babyshambles
