Well, the Ravenclaw raven and Slytherin snake make sense. But a badger for Hufflepuff makes as much sense as a Lion for Gryffindor

...Well, I suppose the founders the houses were named after just wanted to represented by their favorite animals...I doubt they were trying to connect their names to certain animals. Ravenclaw is represented by an eagle, after all, when one might logically think it would be a raven.

Yes...Hogwarts: A History said the bronze eagle was the symbol of Ravenclaw house.
