Hi Vanessa, I have a couple issues i'd like to discuss. First Ill give you some background on my political opinions. I pride myself on being as objective as possible, I listen and watch and read many different political shows and or news shows. I have voted for democrats and republicans. I am an atheist, I believe in a woman’s right to choose, and I voted to not make gay marriage illegal. I want to tell you this because what i'm about to say may sound like a republican view point... I am independent, I look at all sides hard before making my opinion. I feel that all good opinions should be backed up with facts. Which is why If im given a fact that I did not know of before, I am more then capable of changing my mind-which is something it seems no one who identifies themselves as democrat or republican has the ability to do

The mayor refused to issue a mandatory evacuation until 10 o clock Sunday morning. He was advised to do so 15 hours earlier. Same thing in Mississippi, the civil defense director Joe Spraggins also waited until Sunday because he wanted to see what the storm did. When the levies broke on Monday in a conference the major said there had been reports of a levee brake but then he went to other topics. Streets still dry, the mayor still wouldn’t use those busses

How stupid of him. To think that once an evacuation is ordered (however late it was) people would actually leave...not stand on Bourbon street and party it up because this bar "never closes"... And I saw it...jack asses running around drunk while the hurricane was pouring on them... That was the majority of people who stayed. People that could have gotten out but chose not to...Ive been watching news coverage on this non stop practically, almost every rescue I see is someone who was more then able to get out on his own. Levies broke, there are still people flooded who when approached say they don’t want to leave

We failed. Because we don't care. The truth is, Sadam Hussein broke the cease fire 17 times before we went back to war with him... The first time he should have been taken out. He should have been taken out in 91 but the first Bush knew that the people wouldn’t support it. We failed. Alquida attacks us in 93, we should have went to war then... people don't care... we had chances to take Osama out...but people don't care. 9/11 happens and people care for a little while...but as always, we forget. And there is plenty more to do but the government can't because the people don't care. Not until someone comes over the Mexican border and nukes a city. I really hope we don't fail again. The government is once again forced to be reactionary because people don’t care

I can't say that i agree with everything Bush does either, but I do know that he declared a state of emergency before Katrina hit. He did so to get help there before it was needed. He was not able to send in relief until the Mayor asks for help. When Katrina hit they had the least amount of damage and thought they were fine. It wasn't until after the fact that the leeve broke. Before this happened the Mayor should have asked for help. As much as i don't agree with Bush at times this is one issue i think he at least made a attempt to help prevent this from happening.
