Reading this chapter makes me realize how much I want to be Jack (trusting, hopeful, kind) and how much I am Sawyer (suspicious, secretive, and semi passive-aggressive). I want to believe Jack...but I just don't. I want to believe that Margo is trying to change, after having lost so much, but I can't. I just can't trust that she isn't going to cause problems. And Sawyer's probably right. I think she will remember him (whoa with that connection by the way). That's one hell of a position he's in, because if he goes, Jack's mother might flip her lid, and if he doesn't and won't tell Jack why, that doesn't look good at all. Either way he's pretty much fucked
( ... )
I asked myself if I was straining credibility too, too far with the Sawyer-Margo connection, but then I reminded myself that this is Lost we're talking about; straining credibility is the whole point. ;) And you're right, there's trouble ahead (though it's gonna play out differently than you think), but just remember it's always darkest just before dawn. I'm clinging to that phrase today.
Thank you for appreciating the balance. I'm trying to give little glimpses of a normal, happy life, one that can be theirs if they ever work through their issues. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far! ♥
This porch had been his refuge when he was a kid, the place he came to when the spooks under the bed got to be too much for him to handle. He’d creep out here in the middle of the night and listen to the rustlings of the nocturnal animals in the forest, imagining them as a different kind of spooks. The ones under the bed walked on two legs and were covered in blood. They had names. One of them was named Daddy, and he was the ghost who haunted James in his dreams. The other one was named Mr. Sawyer. He haunted James’ every waking moment. James could never escape them, except when he came out here and listened to the creatures of the night.
Now Sawyer has another ghost in his life - the ghost of his former self. Not the boy who hid from his demons inside a makeshift tent, a boy who secretly believed that no one loved him, and that he deserved to die. No, that boy was gone forever, laid to rest when Jack let him into his life. Now he has a new ghost, the ghost of the man he’d been. A man who lied and cheated and killed…and it had all

Thank you so much. I am broken after yesterday, totally, utterly wiped out. BUT, the good news is, I'm way ahead of what I'm posting, so there's a smutty chapter to go before it gets into the rough part. I'll post it in a couple of days -- I don't want to pile on too much too soon.
Thank you for the hugs, too. I think I'll just live here for a while, so thanks for being here and keeping me from being so lonely. :)
Oh, poor Sawyer. Very good twist, though, having him be haunted by the man he used to be, the man he will never be able to escape. And the way he just shuts Jack out. Much as he's changed, there are so many ways that Sawyer hasn't changed.
And you got your spooks in. Which was just perfect.
You're right, though I've been writing redeemed!Sawyer, deep down he hasn't really changed, yet. The old ghosts are still there. Jack's, too. They've got a long way to go. Thank you, and *hugs*
My poor Sawyer! Even when he tries to be good, Fate still kicks him in the ass. (Yep, right in his lovely, perfect ass.)
As always, you write both of them so well! Jack being all innocent-seeming but kind of manipulative ('I miss having a mother'? Low blow, Doc) and Sawyer being all stubborn and distant to try and cover up that old self-hatred is just so characteristic of them.
In re. to your question about whether this connection strains credibility: I don't think that it does; at least, not any more than the canon connections do. It might have seemed farfetched if you'd had Sawyer accept it without question, but the fact that Sawyer is kind of "WTF?" about it makes it natural for the reader to question it, also-- which works well, because if the character echoes the reader's questioning, the reader will probably draw mirror the character's conclusion (in this case, accepting that it's not coincidence, it's Fate).
Also, I have to say that I love Sawyer referring to Jack as his soulmate. SQUEE!! :)

I know, poor baby. *pets him* He and Fate have some issues to work out. I think they will eventually. ;)

THANK YOU for saying that, it's very reassuring. That's what I was hoping to convey, so I'm so glad you think it worked. Fate is kind of a main character on Lost, so I wanted it to be the same in this story.
And yes, we know that Jack is his soulmate, but it makes me soooo happy to know that he knows it too! :D

I'm sorry about my lack of proper feedback lately. I promise I'll catch up eventually. Stupid RL.
