Combating terrorism, my ass. Those sons of bitches don't have the first damned idea who was behind the assassinations or the bombings, and they're trying to draw attention away from their own ignorance by picking on an easy target. Taking money from a disadvantaged group while they're at it... Fucking wretches ( Read more... )

news, public, calling shenanigans, unimpressed with the politicians' bullsh, equal opportunity grumpyface, demihumans, idiocy: not just for ivona anymore, need a drink, vohemar

I agree that the finger-pointing is completely ludicrous and a way to cover their own asses, but I have to disagree on a few points.

Vohemar was once Ivona. You can't expect the masses to be more accepting just because they are a different country, and the government forcing acceptance upon them would only start a revolt. I know not all Vohemaros are prejudiced, but I grew up with the worst of them, and I know a few laws aren't going to change their minds. What you're saying is applicable if we lived in a decent society, but that's not where we live. Vohemar is not a country accepting of others. We have man-hunts for Ivonians. This seems rather tame in comparison.

My point is, these are just words. How do you propose we change things?

The way you're saying it makes me sound like some kind of wide-eyed idealist. Vohemar isn't Ivona, and hasn't been for a long time. Vohemaros, on average, are used to a far greater degree of personal freedom than Ivonians are. They'll be less willing to let go of what they do have, because they're more used to taking it as their right.

...Speaking of those, I suppose I should look into having Hiruma get me and Souji some documentation. We're safe enough on the 4423, but it can't hurt to be prepared if we've ever got to pretend we were born here.

...I have some plans, for various possible paths. First and foremost, we need to keep this public unrest from becoming an actual revolution... the Ivonian military and any upstart looking to grab some land and declare their own country would just love for Vohemar to start fighting with itself. Achieving reform can come immediately after surviving.

You're the last person I would accuse of being an idealist. I was just saying that you offer a lot of criticism and no answers.

My point was that Vohemaro came from Ivona, and the people here are not much different from the people there, no matter how much they don't want to admit it. The demihumans do deserve their rights, but a lot of the human citizens think that registering demihumans is part of their right to living safely within Vohemar. They aren't correct in their thinking, but telling them that won't get them to change their minds. You'll be getting a reaction from the demihumans, but a lot of horrified humans will backlash as well.

You haven't done that already? I thought a responsible man like yourself would be on top of that.

I agree completely. As I said, one revolution will lead to hundreds of revolts. Vohemar isn't perfect, but the further it is from functioning like Ivona the better. When you do set any of these plans in action, be sure to let me know. I'd be sure to lend my services.

There's only so many answers it's intelligent to release where anyone can see them. Best to play things close to the table until you're ready to move.

People are people, with all-too-human faults, and I'll agree with you there. But their thinking can be changed, with time and properly-applied effort.

I don't like asking Hiruma for help, except with official work. Always feels like I'll live to regret it.

Agreed, and duly noted.

[ooc: He'd say thanks for the support, but he's already thanked someone once today, and it was Gorobei, and yeah. Not happening. People would think he was learning humility ;)]
