I don't believe you

I am frequently confounded by the sheer amount of time some people will take to make a purchase. You (I) would think that most of one’s time and stress in a store is spent in the browsing, choosing, etc portions, and that the actual cash-register money transaction would be a straight-forward relief ( Read more... )

Thanks for your inclusion of overly friendly people. I have tried to cut down on this in stores:)
And your complaint is valid. Believe it or not, even happy go lucky me is more and more bogged down by such shoppers.
Let me share an example that my mother created from childhood that speaks right to the topic:
My Mother: "No no, the sign says 15% off your entire purchase. You only took it off the total. It should be taken off each item"
Chaos followed as all the shoppers in the line gave their opinion to the math story problem. Some whole heartedly agreed with my mother and insisted theirs be done the same way. Finally the crowd was unanimous that this was an injustice and the clerk must take 15% off of every item for every customer!
I just stood there, trying to let it go...knowing that all of these people were wrong. At 11 years old, I didn't want to make a mob mad with my crazy good math skills.
So, the checker did it the way my mother demanded, because, well, she was going to be damned if she was wronged in the check out line!

I was hoping you'd comment on this post; I kind of baited you with the comment at the end about racism and poverty. But how funny! I can't believe the cashier actually did it they way your mom wanted. Maybe they shouldn't bother to teach math in schools, because it's clearly just a waste of time ( ... )

Because maybe people just need something to be frustrated about...maybe as outlet for other life frustrations. This way, our crappy attitudes are taken out on other people and again "we" can go around feeling like we're not the problem. in the words of a hanson song...where's the love, there's not enough, it makes the world go round and round and...
