Some customer last night complimented me on my hair. Which I never get complimented on. Usually it's my glasses or...nothing (no, the gimp man at the bookstore DOES NOT COUNT). I felt oddly self-satisfied after the compliment. Does that mean I'm shallow and materialistic?

You are not shallow for indulging in the compliment....people give them to make you feel good. Enjoy the feeling. It's not as if you were fishing for it, you just got a little gift.
