Gamestop, you're killing me

No, not really, but today I stopped by a local Gamestop and they were selling The Dark Spire for the Nintendo DS for $20 new. I bought this game from the same store for $30 not 3 weeks ago. The same price drop happened when Lux-Pain for the DS came out too. I bought it maybe a week after the release when it was $30. Then 2 weeks later, I'm in ( Read more... )

Probably because most of the quick initial sales are people that know about the game, and are possibly looking forward to it. If that's the case, they're probably willing to pay $30. But the sales after it's been out are probably compelled by availability and potential, for which $20 is reasonable.

Yeah, but if they keep pulling that, then the quick buyers are less likely to buy the game at first and may actually forget about them entirely when other new games come out.

That's assuming you're not the only one that notices. Gotta consider most of the population is daft, and not very thrifty. Often prices don't concern people that don't even have excessive amounts of money.

Raise awareness! Bring signs to Gamestops announcing two-week $10 price drops on new DS games.
