This year, instead of prompts, we will ask that you come up with at least three (but no more than five) quotes or lyrics that will inspire your artist or writer.
These quotes can be taken from a book, poetry, movies, or even just famous sayings. Lyrics can be from any genre though we do ask that they contain more real words than vocalizations and filler, for example:
Good: I want your love and I want your revenge / You and me could write a bad romance
Bad: Rah-rah-ah-ah-ah / Roma Roma-ma / Gaga Ooh la la / Want your bad romance
We do ask that the quotes are brief but not too short. Again, an example:
Good: Between the desire and the spasm [...] falls the shadow
Bad: Posting T.S. Eliot's The Hollow Man in its entirety
Think at least five words and no more than thirty and certainly not the entire song or poem.
Songfic is definitely not allowed. Songfic is when the entire song is pasted into the story and/or when there's more lyrics than actual words. Keep the lyrics down to what your recipient quotes in their prompt or less.
Swearing or sexually suggestive quotes are fine as long the quotes are not entirely composed of swears. Lyrics from Ani DiFranco's
Untouchable Face or Nine Inch Nails'
Closer (warning for language in both those links) would be fine, something that looks like porn dialogue would not.
And to give your writer or artist something to work with it's a good idea to use a variety of quotes or lyrics; funny, sad, angry, romantic. However, that is up to you.
